Everyone in SA has got these horns and are blowing them at every opportunity. It sounds like the players are being cheered on ay a ginormous swarm of bea rather than people. It's doing my head in. I like people cheering but you cna't hear them.

AIBU?

YABVVVNU Totally agree, its really annoying listening to that noise all the time. It must drive the players nuts.

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 11/06/2010 22:15

I know - it's messing with my head same as that ticking clock thingy on '24' which is the primary reason I can't watch the show. Even if dh has it on in the kitchen I can hear that ticking... and now the buzzing football too

Armi · 11/06/2010 22:22

It's driving me mad. As does the intermittent 'beeping' noise on 'Scrubs'. I keep thinking it's my dishwasher.

londonmackem · 11/06/2010 22:24

My dad had a low noise tolerance level and is there! Hope fully the England fans will try to sing (obviously accompanied by the band sponsored by Pukka pies )

ApuskiDusky · 11/06/2010 22:26

Yep, really annoying. We tried switching to 5 Live commentary instead of TV, and it was marginally better....

Clary · 11/06/2010 22:27

No YANBU.

I went in and said to DH what the heck is the noise, agree sound slike a swarm of bees.

Are we going to have this all the way through

MisSalLaneous · 11/06/2010 22:32

I'm just glad I'm not in SA now (my family lives there) - it must drive you mad! My dad has a hearing aid, I cannot imagine how hard it must be with the constant horns.

WickedWitchSouthWest · 11/06/2010 22:32

YANBU I was really hoping it was just the first game but lo and behold it was just as bad for the France game this evening. Aaaaaaargh!!!!

purpleturtle · 11/06/2010 22:36

YANBU - Swarm of bees exactly right.

I don't even know why the match was on in our house this evening, but I was pottering about clearing up, and not really noticing - until I turned it over, and realised the lack of annoying bees.

hatingmyjob · 11/06/2010 22:39

YANBU - fottie ahs finished now but I'm afraid to go to bed incase the noise still rings in my ears!

Pennies · 11/06/2010 22:48

Glad you all got I meant bees, rather than lots of people called Bea making that racket. Sorry for typo there .

YANBU

Earplugs · 12/06/2010 22:39

I said exactly the same thing to DH, Swarm of bees it most certainly was! I just don't get why they were sounding them all the bloody time, surely if its bad for us watching on the TV then imagine what it must be like if you're actually there! YANBU!

saffy202 · 12/06/2010 22:47

Apparently if you are there they are giving out free ear plugs - I think they should just ban them - it is really spoiling the games for me.

ShinyAndNew · 12/06/2010 22:50

Dd2 wants one. Dh is thinking of buying her one. I am thinking of moving out until the dog eats it. I think that is entirely fair, yes?

MmeLindt · 12/06/2010 22:50

From what I heard, they are a standard part of Sth African footie games and football would not be football without them.

DD complained they were making her sleepy then promptly fell asleep so maybe you could all use them for getting the DC to bed?

bethylou · 12/06/2010 22:50

I couldn't bear it -we muted the tv and my shoulders visibly relaxed!

PrettyVuvuzela1 · 12/06/2010 22:56

Apparently FIFA have said if a single one lands on the pitch they will all be banned.

One can but hope somebody tries to lob one at John Terry or Rooney
