To buy this without DH permission

I know I am but I don't care!! I'm so freaking excited!!

I just bought a Leebruss Premier Lift (see their website) for £150 on ebay!!

DH had semi agreed to let me look at second hand prams (they are sooooo useful with LO on the way and DS buggy is not suitable for new borns) but said he would like me to wait until we have moved house (4 weeks away) because he didn't want 'any more junk/furniture to move with us'.

But this was just too much of a bargain to pass up!! The car seat is brand new, still boxed and the pram seat has only been used once or twice. TBH it's this seasons colours, so can't be more than a few months old!!

Potential problems are:
i) DH asked me to wait and I didn't
ii) seller will only accept collection, no couriers, and as I don't fit behind the steering wheel at the moment, DH will have to drive 1.5 hours to collect it
iii) I haven't told anyone sex of baby - DH wants a surprise, and the colour of the buggy may just ruin this...

Seller has agreed to wrap it in black plastic though so that he can't see it when he collects

Gibbon · 11/06/2010 14:15

You spotted it pag

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 11/06/2010 14:15

I guess we must have less money than you guys. I just don't understand it as he earns decent money but by the time he has paid the bills and given me the money he does there is nothing left and I rarely have much left at the end of the month.

pagwatch · 11/06/2010 14:30

Oh, we have had this arrangement since we were first married and totally utterly broke....
But I have always watched the account as closely as he does ( or used to ) so I always knew whether what I was going to buy was affordable or not.
But if you don't watch the account Fab I can see why you need to check account status and that is very different from asking him if he approves or not IYSWIM

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 11/06/2010 14:38

I haven't checked either account for months and months .

pranma · 11/06/2010 14:54

There is only one colour which would give away sex of baby

TheBoyWithaSORNedMX5 · 11/06/2010 14:54

Gosh - a quick call would have been polite, imo.

It's not really about the money (well it is a bit - assuming you have joint finances) but you've just bought a major item that you'll both be using without asking his opinion. Would it have been OK if your DH had ordered a pram without consulting you? Or would you be posting on AIBU about it?

FakePlasticTrees · 11/06/2010 14:55

It's a nice looking pram and you'll need to use it nearly every day for 6 months. If you think DH would have thought it was ok to buy that one new, then you have a good saving.

can you go with him to collect it so you can inspect it without DH having to see the colour.

MumNWLondon · 11/06/2010 15:25

I think ii) makes it a bit unreasonable - and can't imagine someone so big they don't fit behind steering wheel my SIL was HUGE and was still driving normal sized car at end of pregnancy.

He wasn't opposed to the purchase and it was a bargain, I'd have done the same, just wouldn't have rubbed it in by asking him to drive to pick it up.

I think i) isn't relevant as it was total bargain and iii) not relevant as its being wrapped up in black wrapping - but I assume its a pink pram as I wouldn't think anything odd about a blue pram for a girl (I bought a blue pram when I knew DD was a girl), so best just not to comment on the wrapping, just say you are not unwrapping it until after the move, and not commenting why its wrapped in black.

pagwatch · 11/06/2010 15:37

Good point MumNWLondon
I was huge and had a driving lesson on my due date with DS2
when the instructor realised he panicked and we had the whole lesson going around and around the hospital

diddl · 11/06/2010 15:42

Ooh like!-so on that basis YANBU!

Gracie123 · 11/06/2010 16:01

Haha! It's a great pram, and it does have swivel wheels by the way. The only coach pram on the market that does!!

I have done a lot of research. DH has seen the pram before, but said there was no way we could afford it.

Surestart and Health in pg grants came in this week (total £690) and I wasn't always not working - previously self employed, so at the moment I get £138 p/week in maternity allowance, so people who think I am unreasonable spending DH's hard earned cash are wrong.

It's more that I made a major purchasing decision without him that I was worried about (that and giving sex away + driving).

I did try to ring him BTW, but he is a teacher and can't answer phone during lessons, so I couldn't get through.

I needn't have worried though, because he has just got home and although not thrilled about having it before we move, he is pleased I got the pram I wanted, and it was less than £200 which is what he had in mind as a budget.

He did end up wanting to know the sex (impatient) so I have told. We are having a little girl

So now we will have one boy and one girl.

p.s. love that some people don't think I'm unreasonable on the basis that it is a really nice pram

Bit late as you've already bought it but the Stylo is coach style with swivel wheels too.

Gracie123 · 11/06/2010 16:59

Hully What's Darfur and afghan children mean? (I genuinely don't know)

nappyaddict yeah, but look at it's tiny shopping basket by comparison...

I know it is a ridiculous frivolous luxury, but I only ever had free things that we were given with DS, (mostly falling apart and filthy, but we couldn't afford to buy anything). I am well aware that it is ridiculous to be so excited by a buggy, but it is the first thing I have ever bought for a baby and I had no idea how exciting it would be.

I can totally see why people go on a baby buying frenzy. I promise I won't though

Gracie123 · 11/06/2010 17:05

pag and MNWL I genuinely don't!! I'm only just 5ft and this happened in my last pregnancy too! If I have the seat far back enough to get behind the wheel, I can't reach the pedals, but any further forward and the wheel is digging into bump and not easily turn-able.

I know it sounds weird but trust me. I'm a small girl carrying a baby that was full term size at 28 weeks. That's DH's genes for you!

LeQueen, that is just showing off You only fail to notice money spent on 'a car, sofas, a huge aqarium and booked holidays...' if you have lots of money to spare.

I can tell you that DH would soon notice if I spent money on any of those things 'all without so much as a by-your-leave from Mrlou'.

diddl · 11/06/2010 17:47

I had a similar pram & you really don´t imo need swivel wheels.

scottishmummy · 11/06/2010 18:00

worst bit is you spoil the baby gender suprise.you had a loose agreement with dh and wilfully blaze on in ignoring him but expecting him to go collect presumably a pink chariot is very very selfish

scottishmummy · 11/06/2010 18:08

see you told him bout pram and gender -he ok.that good. so do link then.did you save a lot of money
