OMG thats awful. YANBU

The company that sells the first one states:

Sporting Kicks has no allegiance with any Nazi, fascist or other neo-political organisation. This flag is sold for the benefit of historians and serious students of politics.

Not sure that it is historians who are buying these tbh.

You can buy anything if you look hard enough.

Clearly there are people out there who want such things. Companies don't sell things that people don't want to buy.

I have no idea why anyone would want such a thing.

Well, that's not true. I do.

Actually, my grandad has a nazi flag. He tore it down at the end of the war (he was in the royal tank regiment) and he's kept it all these years (along with loads and loads of stuff museums would go mad to get their hands on!) I have seen and touched it and it really does send a shudder through you.

Hecate
Having a flag that was torn down at the end of the war is totally different to producing and selling a flag like this.

Of course I realised that there must be companies doing so but was surprised to find that Amazon is one of them.

It is illegal in Germany as far as I know.

Oh yes, I know it is. The thread just reminded me of the fact I've seen one, that's all.

My point is that companies offer what people want, no matter how sick. So it's not that amazon sells it, it's that people want it that is so terrible, imo.

YANBU.

I rememeber seeing one hung up in an upstairs bedroom of a neighbours house once and it really upset me for weeks (I honestly wan't being nosey, the light was on and it was just so obviously visable).

With hindsight I think the owner was most likely a collector of millitary things given other objects on display but the problem is that the swastika is such a potent and unpleasant symbol that I still can't understand why someone would want to display it in their home.

I know it is irrational but it genuinely did upset me to think that it was the other side of our bedroom walls.

I'm sure that given the the very thin walls he was under no illusions as to how we felt. Dh ranted at length and if he didn't hear his tirade, he had to hear the one from our visiting German friend. The flag disappeared soon afterwards. I didn't know whether I was relieved or embarrassed that he had likely heard dh's none too delicate remarks!
