Hi

My dh is going to a music festival camping at the weekend (4 days) with his mates.

He mentioned that he needed to buy 24 pork pies as they are having them for their lunch every day!!!

Well besides being horrified at the calorific intake surely pork pies wont keep out the fridge for 4 days. He says I am being picky and he is not asking me to eat them!

These men is an intelligent 45 year olds (not bits of kids)how can all 3 of them think this will not make them ill. Is it just me being unreasonable?

Also can anyone suggest meals that would keep without a fridge and need no cooking.

My dd has a little mini fridge which also has a warming function, it can also run off a car lighter thingy. Only cost £2o and it has flashing lights !

It sounds like they're guaranteed food poisoning if they eat the pork pies.

I'd take vacuum packed foods. Beef jerky, those Matteson smoked sausages which are ready to eat, you can get ready cooked bacon which could be used for sandwiches, tinned tuna, fruit, fresh, dried or tinned, trail mix, cereal bars, cakes perhaps brownies or flapjacks, pepperami perhaps, peanut butter, pita bread instead of a loaf of bread, tinned bean salad to mix with the tuna, crackers etc.

he'll be fine - DP ate a scoth pie that had been left in the car for four days the other day....

You can get various flavoured tunas now. There's tuna light lunches which are tuna with pasta, beans or vegetables. Tuna with lime and pepper, coronation tuna etc.

Of course there's salmon, sardines etc too.

M&S have some tinned chicken and ham which isn't bad at all.

TA. You may. But in the context of pork pies and associated charcuterie only.

Please don't attempt to use the quote in relation to any other protein foods, or indeed any other edible items of any description.

Or about anything else, matey. Got it?

If he goes to the supermarket, point out that if the shop keeps something in a fridge then they really ought to be kept in a fridge once they have been bought. And if the shop keeps them on a normal shelf then they should be OK.

well - ok with a couple of caveats to look for things like mould on bread or fruit! And also to get the single portion sizes rather than big ones that they will eat half and save the rest for later. OK if they share a tin between two of them but from what you were saying might be that they need it spelling out for them!

You can also get things like packets of pitta bread that are sealed and safe to eat for a couple of months rather than the ones that only have a few days of shelf life. Might also be handy to have a couple of sealed things in case it rains lots and their food gets soaked...

Some things need microwave or boiling water to cook them to make them edible, other stuff is ok to eat hot or cold. Will he be taking a tin opener with him and a kettle for the car?

Tinned sweetcorn or tinned baked beans can be good protein if he isn't keen on tuna. and tinned corned beef or spam is protein - not quite so healthy though.

Definitely think you should pack a tin of spam in his bag for him

Thanks Everyone one. He came back with only 6 pork pies and a couple of tins of hotdogs, rolls and a jar of olives.

So hopefully he'll survive
