It drives me crazy, I have said to him a billion times to keep his mouth shut when eating.

Why can't he?

It's my pet hate, looking at chewed food and listening to chewing and it looks vile.

AIBU?

YANBU and it is worth persisting because if there is anything worse than sitting opposite a child doing this it is sitting opposite an adult who has never learnt / been told how to. I have twice had this misfortune in a work situation. Eugh.

Could there be some good reason though why he finds it difficult e.g. persistent nasal congestion?

I hate it also. Unfortunately DH's family all seem to eat and talk with mouthfuls of mush swirling around in their gobs. I am constantly reminding him not to as it makes it difficult to correct the children. Thank god he hardly ever eats with us . I sound a right PITA LOL!

I never eat out with my DH because I can't bear to watch the food in his mouth going round and round like a cement mixer.

Keep on at your DS. It's like water wearing away a stone drip by drip. All mine eat with their mouths shut now, but I despaired when they were younger.

Apparently teaching your children to "eat like a rabbit" and then demonstrating how rabbits chew with their mouths closed can work - sounds like a nice gentle reminder. Not sure if it would work on an 8 year old or a DH, and I don't yet have DC to try it on.

Definitely keep at it - otherwise it will be disgusting for the rest of the world too.

YANBU, it's one of my biggest hates. I'm constantly telling dh to stop chomping too - YUK!
