to give my neck a really good crack

I love cracking my neck (lady like I know), and fingers, feet, toes.

I do it most days, whenever I am feeling a bit stiff, because I have always suffered from a sore back and neck

The problem is DH is a big baby, and says it make him feel physically ill. He thinks I should leave the room if I want to crack something.. I don't see why I should have to move out of my living room or why I shouldn't be able to do it while he is driving (long car rides seem to bring it on as well). I think after as many years as we have been together he should probably be over it by now.

yanbu

he should get over it

but surely its not good for you
surely the more you do it the more you're going to need to do it

you're aggravating the fluid inside your joints

sanielle · 06/06/2010 12:02

I have heard that before, but what do I do when it is really sore? Feels like the only way to relieve the pressure.. Don't think I could handle just ignoring it..

Perhaps you could see your GP or an osteopath about it. Possibly you've got something out of line that needs correcting by someone qualified?

I do this and I've been told it's not damaging. I think I gross out a lot of people doing it. I'm also a hypocrite because I can't stand other people doing it! I try to avoid doing it near other people now as it is pretty sick

Kaloki · 06/06/2010 14:10

My physio advised me to do it for my back problems. So it can't be that bad!

My whole spine crunches when I move

lazarusb · 06/06/2010 16:25

I can't say I like the sound of it myself but my dh and dd do it, just one of those things. I'm sure I do things they don't like (being on mn all the time!!)

5Foot5 · 06/06/2010 16:42

I don't think I have heard anyone crack their neck but I have to admit that I really hate it when people crack their fingers. A guy at work used to do it alot and it was all I could do not to flinch and go "Eugh!" every time. He left thank God!

AvadaKedavra · 06/06/2010 16:44

My DH cracks his toes by folding his toes under his foot and standing on them. It does make me feel physically sick so I have utter sympathy with your husband here. I hate that my DH won't do it out of my hearing, that he obviously cares so little about my feelings

fluffles · 06/06/2010 16:45

it's a really repulsive noise, i'm sorry.

you have every right to do it but your DH has every right to be repulsed by it (and do you really want to repulse your DH?)

imo it's similar to doing a really smelly fart - yes, you should be able to do it in your own home, but yes your spouse is entitled to think it's disgusting.

Buddleja · 06/06/2010 16:50

My DH reakons it's what serial killers do and becomes very very nervy of me when I do it

On a serious note if your husband is repulsed by it then you should consider not doing it when he's in the room or on car journey's give him prior notice.

LouIsWaltzingMatilda · 06/06/2010 17:23

I do it but then I crack nearly every bone in my body.
I fail to see how it is repulsive. It does not smell. You are not spreading germs by doing it.
I love to crack my neck frist thing in the morning

SloanyPony · 06/06/2010 18:23

Ha. Its a sort of fart, you know, as the air moves from one side of the joint to the other, or some such.

I did read somewhere that neck cracking was linked to an increased risk of stroke, but I think it was people who were having it done all the time at the chiropractor, not just hobbyist neck cracking...
