my hair is longish and although ive always wanted it long, it irritates me so much and i dont want to always have to wear it up ( i look ridiculous)

my dh -really- doesn't want me to have it cut, he says he loves it long, regardless of the fact i cant really kiss him in bed etc without it going in our mouths etc and it gets in the way contantly.

a) go get it cut without his knowledge
b) beg him for permission and money for the cut
c) suck it up and keep it up

it sounds shallow but i always feel good when my hair is nice. i dont have the time or the energy to do anything special with it. just feel if it was shorter it would be easier to manage.

(havent had it cut in about 1 1/2 years )

Sorry, I read the first half.

I think you should post a before and after, you could get it cut and sell it.....you get quite a bit for European hair!! Or donate it to cancer research to give to someone that has lost their hair!

MrsHarkness · 04/06/2010 19:13

Sorry since it's not about a real lovechild I have lost interest!

posieparker · 04/06/2010 19:14

some info here

Elasticwoman · 04/06/2010 20:19

Posie - what's wrong with hair longer than below the shoulders?

I like having long hair. At least I can put it up and get it off my neck in the hot weather. I spend v little at the hairdresser and avoid that feeling of horror after cut that's not what I anticipated.

Morloth · 04/06/2010 20:25

It's just hair, it grows back you know.

marriednotdead · 04/06/2010 20:32

OP, I do understand your dilemma. My DH and DD always moan if I have more than a trim. Yes, it grows back but still they complain.
I like my hair longish but sometimes feel like it belongs to them
Have a trim and work on him gradually.

WitchyWooWoo · 04/06/2010 20:40

ive spoken to him about my hair woes and he said what a lot of you have said, my hair my choice..

well... i did google chubby girl hair and found this

manolobig.com/2008/02/25/hair-advice-for-the-big-girl/ but apart from some advice saying "do what suits you best" i have no clue. want a bob type thing lengthwise - under my chin hmm might look for some piccies online.

posie great idea, dont think the amount coming off me will do any good though.. i wonder if hairdressers would do this... if someone takes -a lot- off suggest donating...

I have seriously long hair - like near knee length - and can I just say something in defence of long hair?

Shoulder-blade-length is the absolute worst!(in management terms only!!!!)

It's too long to be manageable the way short hair is... and too short to be truly long.

The first thing I get asked by everyone is 'oh, that must take you ages...' and the honest answer is that it doesn't. (And I have a four month old, btw...)I wash it, brush it out and then leave it alone for half an hour till its dry, then plait, pin up, whatever, shove in kirby grips and go. I'm done for the day. Plus, it makes for a very striking accessory when I do leave it down.

It was, however, hell at mid back length. It's long enough to move freely and not long enough to be weighed into place by itself.

If you want a working compromise between length and not-everywhere, cut the front sections into loose layers around your face and let the back grow out more. Quick, both short and long and fairly easy to maintain with quick trims.

That said, definitely your hair, your choice!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 05/06/2010 13:32

Ginnybag, me dd would be looking at you in awe and wonder, you do sound a bit Amish though with the plaits.
OP, you are a braver person than me, I wouldn't ever google chubby girls hair.

waitingimpatiently · 05/06/2010 17:25

I've only skimmed the responses to this so I don't know if someone else has suggested but I have long hair and in a couple of weeks I am cutting most of it off to donate to a charity that make wigs for little children who have lost their hair to cancer.
You could always tell him that's why you want it done?

posieparker · 05/06/2010 19:39

Below the breast/shoulder is perfect.....long enough to tie up and do things with it but not witch like....and don't get me started on women over 35 with very long hair.....eeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

ginnybag · 07/06/2010 16:03

Lol - not Amish, although it is something of a family thing.

It seriously is just easier for me - my hair is just unmanagebale when it's shorter. I'd be spending hours a day with straighteners to keep it from sticking straight up if it were shorter!

flimflammum · 07/06/2010 16:17

Witchy: I've grown my hair long in recent years partly because DH said he liked it long. Eventually I got fed up, felt like a change and got it cut to bob length and feel great about it, got lots of positive comments from others. And DH now says he likes it short, it reminds him of what I looked like when we first met! So of course, do what makes you feel good.
