To think that a child who is technically I'll should jolly well go and BE ill? I'm knackered!

I know it's no fun to be properly illl, and I mean this in a light-hearted way, but ds2 is on day 6 of chickenpox, he's still getting new spots so he's still quarantined, but he is absolutely bouncing off the walls with energy and creativity!

Just lie down and be quiet for a few minutes, please! Surely you need a rest? You're ill!

The only time he behaves ill is at night, his sleep is really bad, so either I'm up and down with him like a yoyo or else I give up and squeeze into bed with him.

And it's half-term. And I've got two older dcs who are gutted at having all our plans canceled and most of their friends are away. At least they're old enough to go to the park alone.

I'm worn out.

Are you giving him any painkillers? When DD was really ill over Christmas I stopped giving her painkillers during the day as they just seemed to make her feel well enough to run round and then completely crash out an hour later when they started to wear off. I swear there are times when painkillers making you feel better when you aren't actually hinders your recovery!

Hope he feels better soon!

I feel your pain, I'm at home with a 1 yo with chicken pox and he's far too busy for my liking . He gave us a really crappy night last night too so I'm feeling very sorry for myself (this is why I have retreated to MN whilst he entertains himself for 10 mins). His sister (2 yo) had it the week before last and was unbelievably chipper - BASTARDS!! (they're lovely really)

Can he go for a run in the garden so that he´ll sleep tonight?

MrsMellowdrummer · 02/06/2010 13:47

Hmmm... my 3 year old daughter has just recovered from chickenpox. I think boundless energy is one of the symptoms!

You have my sympathies.

MrsBadger · 02/06/2010 13:52

hve you friends who have already had it? we advertise ourselves as pox pals as the whole family has had it already so we can have spotty ones round to play

PrettyCandles · 02/06/2010 16:48

Since my OP a couple of neighbourhood boys have turned up, so ds1&2 have been running around like lunatics. Mayhem here, but at least the boys are happy and I can leave them to it for a while.

Dd OTOH is now in a mega-strop because IT'S NOT FAIR! Yup, honey, it's not. But I asked you if you wanted to get dressed and walk round to a friend's house and you refused.

Argh!

Plus I have just learned that the 7m baby ds was playing with last week has started coming out in spots.

I can sympathize - my three (ages 5,3 and 1) have had it. The youngest two are still covered in spots. The two girls (5 and 1) were totally fine and have been driving me mad because they are bored hanging about. My 3 year old got a really high temp, the worst spots I have ever seen, a sore throat etc so I was trying to comfort him while entertaining the other two! arghh!
