8 year old looking for naughty pictures

Am I being unreasonable to be distinctly freaked at finding my 8 yr old DS has spent the morning looking for internet sites about girls with no pants. We have parental controls which blocked a fair bit but let him on some of You tube and a Cosmopolitan best sex positions page! Have since tightened the parental controls further. Tried to talk to him about why e.g. was he curious or had boys at school suggested it? Just got red face and a brick wall.

I have banned my DSs from going on anything but Cbbc and BBC bitesize....I'm a right barrel of laughs.

Wow, I have the utmost sympathy for you hedwig . I have a now 12 yo son (yes, folks I decide to allow him to actually live) who started his hobby of surfing for porn on the internet at the tender age of just 10. I'm talking about the really hard stuff (oops, no pun intended!!!)It has been an ongoing struggle since then to make him understand that not only is it inappropriate makes you go blind , your willy drops off ,urge vomit, but illegal.

I'm very lucky in that it has been easy to keep him off the computer at home, but there have been times when his enforced ban has been relaxed (in order to give him the opportunity to redeem himself) but he has found the most incredible ways around Net Nanny (last in list of parental control programs we've tried). I was disgusted that the worst sites he was able to find and even access without any type of age verification was to simply type one three letter word (begins with an S) into Google!!!

Now he simply isn;t allowed near the computer at all. For his age the greatest punishment is in him having to explain to his mates WHY he isn;t allowed near the computer. No, no they don;t all tell him he's an idiout, they simply slap him upside the head for getting caught. NOT the best lesson but a stronger one having come from a source he respects. It is getting better as he gets older. In that he understands a bit better o control the urge (I suppose it helps that he now has his special sock something else to do with his hands time.

I know I seem to be making a bit light of this. It's the hysteria people. If I think about the 'special videos' I found him making last year I really will go and vom. He is terribly naive in his 'porn' problem, thank god. There isn;t a bit of real deviant in him, no more so than in most grubby little 12 yo boys. He may make it to adulthood with all his special 'bits' still intact and then it'll be his partners problem not mine. phew

BUt at least she'll have a man who knows how to use his hands wash up and put the hoover round! Grin

I think it's perfectly normal to have the curiosity.

Little kids have some sort of obsession with bums and bits (and farts Hmm)

Yesterday I looked at ds1's dsi and saw that him and his brother had been taking pictures of their bottoms and penises and making pictures (like a penis sunflower and a bottom with hearts on it) Hmm

Had a chat about Appropriate Behaviour, deleted the pictures and went to the bathroom for a quick snigger. Grin

kids are weird.

I found my son searching for images when he was 11 - 8 seems young to me! I told my son that there was something wrong with the computer and I thought I'd have to take it to work with me to get the technicians to look at it. I said it was incredible what they could do, they could see every single thing that I'd done on the computer and tell me what had happened to cause the problem. No problems after that.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 16/08/2010 18:19

Thanks for all those places, folks.

It certainly puts Vange and Fobbing (Essex) into perspective ......

tethersend · 16/08/2010 18:27

My dad lives near Fanny Hands Lane

TheJollyPirate · 16/08/2010 18:39

I live near Vange..........

KaraStarbuckThrace · 16/08/2010 18:40

Butt Hole Lane always makes me giggle - it's just off the A630 into Rotherham.

My Nan used to live in Vange! I never thought there was anything odd about the name at the time Blush

I did rifle through my mum's Man & Woman mags (you collected them and then got some folders to put them in) when I was about 8-9. BlushBlush

DS opened a CBBC/Hot Wheels (I can't remember which) 'account' thingy with the username 'SexBoobs' I am not sure whether it's me or them that need to tighten their controls!

I would have thought there would be something on the site that stopped stuff like that. He told me the other day, apparently it was a while ago but he has bee too scared to log back on because it was such a naughty thing to do!

Whe he gets back from Grandmas and confirms which site it was I think maybe I should email the site to let them know this is even possible.

sunny2010 · 16/08/2010 20:50

I dont think there is anything wrong with that I remember at that age being obsessed with the more sex position of the fortnight page. All the girls at school would find a copy and rip it out to show each other. We didnt have the internet then! Haha its so lame but I dont think its a big deal.

hairytriangle · 16/08/2010 21:00

8 is too young for unsupervised internet accesss.

Would you allow him into a newsagent which sold pornography on his own?

I don't think it unusual for an 8 year old boy to be curious about this.

Omarlittlest · 16/08/2010 21:19

my niece came to us, aged then about six/seven. she was totally freaked out when she misspelled hotmail by typing hotmale , am guessing that has happened more often!

sleepingsowell · 16/08/2010 21:39

I agree curiosity is totally normal, and agree that an 8 year old should be supervised at all times on the internet, even if this is boring and inconvenient for the grown ups!

BreastmilkDoesAFabLatte · 17/08/2010 09:49

A penis sunflower? That's rather clever.

When I was 8 I worked out how to rename files and named all my dad's work files as "poo" and "bum". In the mid '80s, that was seen as technically precocious. I don't know if passwords had yet been invented...
