I have posted before about this so I will spare you the boring details but basically I have high blood pressure and today the results of a 24 hour urine collection today showed high protein (3 times the upper limit according to the little results sheet)and high creatinine (?) so I was told yes I have preeclampsia. Then she said just see your midwife in two weeks and and come back here in a month!. I have had preeclampsia three times my second son had IUGR because of it.I am only 30 weeks pregnant so its not as though the baby is nearly due.

The hospital is very busy they had to shut the labour ward a few days ago because they had run out of room. I have tried to make an appointment with the community midwife but cant for another 2 weeks which the doctor said was fine but I am REALLY not happy with that gap. When this has happened before it has been a matter of 2 days before things got so bad I had to deliver.

I was thinking of calling up in say 4 or 5 days and just saying I wanted a check for whatever reason but I cant decide if that would be unreasonable since the doctor said not to bother for two weeks!

I wouldn't be happy either, can you phone and speak to your community midwife team tomorrow?

kitbit · 01/06/2010 21:44

Make a huge fuss. You are not being unreasonable. You know your history and you are not happy with the advice that you have been given.

Don't feel bad, you want reassurance that you and your baby will be OK so in my book that justifies a fuss, in A&E if necessary.

Go and raise hell!

kitbit · 01/06/2010 21:45

...didn't mean to panic you, it's not that I think you're about to explode or anything...!!!! I just think that you are worried and that justifies getting further checks.

Burst into tears and pretend to feel faint if necessary!

orienteerer · 01/06/2010 21:47

I'd make a massive scene! Go to GP first thing in morning, if not A&E.

Kizzycat · 01/06/2010 21:48

Oh my word!
I've had P-E which was diagnosed after a 24 hour urine collection but by that time I was IN hospital. I would be back to doctors TOMORROW, never mind waiting 4-5 days.
Hope your ok, PE is awful.

Lulumaam · 01/06/2010 21:48

you hvae pre eclampsia

it can develop into something fatal for mother and baby

you are high risk

your baby oculd need imminent delivery

you should be under consultant care

if you have flashing lights/ visual disturbances/ swelling you must go directly to the ward. it can be really serious

YAB U to want to make something up as you should be treated with more care than this as a high risk mother...

Alouiseg · 01/06/2010 21:49

Doesn't high creatine indicate an infection???

I'd be kicking off by now.

Kizzycat · 01/06/2010 21:58

Oh I would also question why when you've previously had PE your not receiving extra care automatically.
In my 2nd pregnancy I had 3 extra scans and weekly bp checks from 24 weeks.
Please don't wait with this.

siblingrivalry · 01/06/2010 22:10

Please, please make a fuss. I has PE and I wasn't allowed out of bed in the hospital for the last few days before delivery.

I would advocate making something up if it will get you checked on -tell them you feel ill/have headaches -anything that will bump you up the list. It's true that the squeaky wheel gets the oil!

Best of luck, please let us know how you get on. I feel so at how you have been treated.

fernie3 · 01/06/2010 22:14

ok I am going to call my community midwife tomorrow and try and get some sense out of someone if I cant get through to her I will call day care and ask them. Meanwhile I will sit here and worry lol

creatinine indicates problems with kidneys which can occur during PG. I had high BP, +nitrates in urine, high creatinine and was admitted and put on IV antibiotics ( I was 19wks,6days). And that wasn't PE

Thats the least I would be demanding that treatment is appaling and both you and DC deserve better.

Personally I would call an ambulance - mention visual disturabances- cry lots and get blue lighted there and admitted!!!

Just pack your bag ready so your comfy

I've never understood why they send people with HB home stressed surely not productive.

Best of luck keep us posted.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 01/06/2010 22:24

That is terrible advice. Go to GP in the am and get sorted out - it's not OK to be told to wait that long.

CarGirl · 01/06/2010 22:25

You could ring the labour ward this evening, just turn up if you do get any other symptoms of PE.

chickenlickin · 01/06/2010 22:26

This is awful - ring up say you have visual disturbances and headaches, and that you are coming in. Demand to see a consultant or at very least a registrar (not Senior house officer - doctor). Stay there until you have all your concerns answered. If is true Pre-eclampisa they will ahve to deliver you. But at 30 weeks they may just monitor you closely as baby safest inside. Make sure you have regular scans and regular check-ups. You could always see GP for bp check ups inbetween times. Good luck xx

fulltimeworkingmum · 01/06/2010 22:29

just go to the labour ward and say you have a terrible headache and are seeing flashing lights - all signs of high blood pressure. They will take lots of blood and prod you around a lot but at least they will investigate better than your woefully inadequate GP/midwife or explain what is going on properly and put your mind at rest.

Good luck and hope all goes well x

Also remember that we are paying for the doctors and nurses in the NHS.
We are their bosses so to speak, they can give us the info. and advise but ultimately any decision about our bodies is ours to make.

So go in and tell them your history and that you'd like to be dealt with please.

DSM · 02/06/2010 00:31

I hate this.

I work in a very male dominated industry, and though I am the manager, almost every tradesman/rep/customer addresses male members of staff, of whom I am the boss, before they do me. Often, they continue to do so after being informed I'm the manager.

I've had countless people ask for the manager, only to then be greeted by me and ask me for MY manager, or the REAL manager.

It's so damn hard to be taken seriously. I've battled with this for years. People think it doesn't happen, but it bloody well does.

DSM · 02/06/2010 00:32

Oops, wrong thread!

Kizzycat · 02/06/2010 13:19
