to be confused about food?

It's the whole butter v. margarine thing.

Is it really better for you to have "real" food rather than lower fat, "plastic" food?

What if you need to lose weight? Would it still be preferable to have the "real" option, but have it in moderation?

I'm confused!

What about milk though? I don't see a problem in drinking semi or skimmed - it just has less fat, so what? There's not chemicals added.

Equally I like plain low faw yogurt - it's the non fat varieties, packed full of aspartame etc (yuk) that are revolting.

Cottage cheese is naturally low in fat (I like it).

So I think low fat versions are often OK, its the non-fat/diet versions that are best avoided.

Ooh, that's another thing: sweeteners or sugar?

That's it, Miss Cromwell...I don't object to things that are more or less naturally made to be a bit lighter in fat content, but to take all the fat out, then replace with sweetner and a bunch of other garbage...that's where I think eating naturally is better for the most part...even if you're trying to lose weight.

LOL thesecondcoming...I think that's why I don't have a 'butter problem'...I could care less about bread, so not much point in eating butter, I suppose!

In a lot of non-fat biscuits they put in extra sugar to make them taste nice.

With all things in relation to food it is what you do most of the time which is important. If you like butter (and don't have high cholesterol) there is no reason to not have it so long as you only use a small amount. Semi-skimmed -v- skimmed is a question of calories however, if you are using it in tea you will probably end up using more skimmed milk anyway to make it to your taste.

IMO a little high fat stuff is more satiating than a low fat substitute.

Sweetners are also fake...and every couple of years some report comes up about some disease that sweetners cause...I take that stuff with a grain of salt, of course, but I don't really like the idea of them (and once you get used to life without them...they taste VILE!)

def sugar. Just in moderation.

Just google 'sweetners' and you'll see all kinds of horror stories. Many of them untrue of course but theres no smoke without fire.

I think one of the reasons sweeteners are bad is that they increase your appetite afterwards? Say you have a normal cola with sugar, you get the sweetness and the energy rush from the glucose.
If you have an artificially sweetened/no sugar drink, you get the sweetness, which tricks your brain into expecting the energy rush - which isn't there! This makes you hungry for the energy rush so you probably end up eating more anyway.

That said, the only fizzy drink I like is pepsi max/coke zero - during last PG anything else made me feel sick!
