To think that bubblegum flavour toothpaste is a crap concept?

Just been into Tescos having run out of toothpaste for ds (5). Poor selection of kids pastes available - chose a MacLean (sp?) one for kids 4-6.

Got it home and it stinks and tastes of bubblegum in spite of it being labelled 'mint' flavour!

What's next I wonder? Cigarette flavour asthma inhalers, or am I just missing the point and being silly?

Why does toothpaste have to taste of mint? If it works the same it can taste of whatever can't it?

I like the kingfisher fennel one, tastes like liquorice.

I think toothpaste manufacturers are missing an entire market by only making the kid's ones interesting, I would definitely buy bubblegum flavoured toothpaste if it was available.

what's wrong with bubblegum too?

mummytime · 01/06/2010 13:01

My daughter won't use mint toothpaste. So we buy bubblegum flavour (not mint bubblegum though).

Stricnine · 01/06/2010 13:05

I've another who won't use mint - hates the taste of mint totally - she's now 13 and will tolerate mild mint toothpaste, but it's been a real pain over the years finding toothpaste she'll use!!
YABU - who cares what the taste is called if it tastes ok!!

dd2 doesnt have mint & my Mam kept bringing this awful bright pink strawberry stuff. I now have the fennel stuff & she loves it!

atomicsnowflake · 01/06/2010 13:59

I just think that it encourages a sweet tooth and possible addiction to those strange, brightly coloured, additive laden sweets you find in newsagents shops.

I buy Kingfisher too and it's great. I'll just have to get him on to that.

have you tried curry flavour toothpaste? DH got some when in Japan a few years ago. Why use mint when you can use curry!

FakePlasticTrees · 01/06/2010 14:06

No, toothpaste should taste of mint, anything else is just wrong.

gagamama · 01/06/2010 14:19

I guess it's no weirder than it tasting of mint really, given than mints are sweets too, but I see your point!

I find it a bit odd that mint is associated with oral cleanliness though, since mouths aren't naturally minty. I think floral toothpaste would be lovely actually, lavender and violet or something.
