Rude or not?

HecateQueenOfWitches · 30/05/2010 17:52

Want to settle an argument? (I know you love the power )

"brring brring"
"Hello?"
"Who is this?" (in hostile, accusing tone)
"This is the person who owns this line so if you don't know, I would suggest you have dialed the wrong number"

Person who owns line - rude or not?

Not rude. I hate, hate, hate that.

Plopsie · 30/05/2010 17:54

That sounds reasonable to me!

CheekyPinkSox · 30/05/2010 17:56

they said that to you

ItsGraceAgain · 30/05/2010 17:56

DNU. Wish I'd thought of it!

BuzzingNoise · 30/05/2010 17:58

Not rude of you.

KurriKurri · 30/05/2010 18:00

No not rude, the response after 'hello' should have been 'can I speak to X please, this is Y'

I've had people demand to know who I am when they've phoned me, and I always say 'no, who are you ?

JaxTellersOldLady · 30/05/2010 18:02

not rude at all. The person calling was rude!

HecateQueenOfWitches · 30/05/2010 18:02

Good so far! No, I didn't think I was rude either. Someone phones me, I say hello and they are really hostile who is this. I mean really aggressive

OP posts:
SongBiird · 30/05/2010 18:13

NOT!

PositiveAttitude · 30/05/2010 18:19

Pet hate of mine!! Definitely not rude.

diddl · 30/05/2010 18:21

Should that have been "the person who rents the line"?

Of course YANBR(ude)

I always answer with "hello"-not name/number.

Perhaps that´s what p!ssed them off.

Not that that excuses them, of course.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 30/05/2010 18:26

Should it have been this is the person who rents this line? I suppose it should really. Next time it will be

It wasn't even the fact they asked who it was. If they'd said "Hi, who's that?" in a friendly manner, I'd probably have said. It was the tone, the nasty voice.

I did wonder later if there was a relationship issue, iyswim. Not that I would be involved in that but that she had the wrong number or something. It was that sort of hostility iyswim.

And I suppose if you look at it like that, my reply didn't help.

Now I am overanalysing

Love it

LittleSilver · 30/05/2010 18:59

Argh, have friend who rings up every 3 months or so and says "Hello LittleSilver!" as I answer. I then spend ages trying to work out who it is, and then she sounds offended if I ask outright. JUST SAY YOUR NAME!

SilveryMoon · 30/05/2010 19:02

Not rude at all.
The caller was rude with the accusing tone.

PortiaNovmerriment · 30/05/2010 19:04

Ooh, Hecate, what have you been up to?

GinSlinger · 30/05/2010 19:46

the rules according to me are:

you call someone and say hello, this is ginslinger may I speak to HecateQOW if it's convenient.

It is only good manners. I am right.

MiniMarmite · 30/05/2010 19:50

did you do 1471?

Lotkinsgonecurly · 30/05/2010 19:53

Completley fair. Along the same lines of the bank calling and then asking for your date of birth to confirm who you are, answer is No! If its that important email / write to me. Of course they never do.

mumbar · 30/05/2010 20:06

No U from me either.

Actually jelous I didn't think of it

Did have someone ring once about a competition I'd entered ???????????

Said I haven't entered any comp.

Yes madamn the one for....

No no comp

yes the one.............

my reply ' how stupid do you think I am I didn't enter a competition and I'm not interested in what you want to sell me so goodnight.

HecateQueenOfWitches · 30/05/2010 20:15

P - nothing! Chance'd be a fine thing

1471 It never occurred to me. Mind you, what would I have done? Rung back and said you were very rude to me.

Actually, I probably would have

I am glad you all agree with me. I can now go ner ner ner ner ner to Himself and say see, I am not needlessly confrontational by nature

Re the banks etc, I say you called ME, I should be taking you through security!

I won't confirm my details to someone who just called me out of the blue claiming to be from whereever. Bugger that! They get arsey though, especially when you point out you are only following their own advice about not giving out personal details.

OP posts:
NetworkGuy · 30/05/2010 20:43

bank rang me the other day, gave me part of the info first, then asked for the remainder. Seemed reasonable.

Thediaryofanobody · 30/05/2010 20:46

Not rude and good come back!

paisleyleaf · 30/05/2010 20:47

oh those bank calls. I never get how they've rung me then ask me for personal details for data protection.

Loving your response Hecate - not ride

PurpleLostPrincess · 30/05/2010 20:58

YADNBU

I keep getting calls that go like this:

Caller: "Hello, can I speak with PLP, it's XYZ calling about the sky insurance"

Me: "Yes, this is PLP"

Caller: "I'm calling about your sky insurance as it's due for renewal"

Me: "No it's not"

Caller: "Yes it is, it's due for renewal and we can offer... blah blah blah"

Me: (totally interrupting) "What is your company name?"

Caller: "XYZ"

Me: "Well I have a policy with a different company and it's NOT due for renewal!"

Caller: hung up!!!!!!!

I've had this a few times where they are extremely rude and treat me like some sort of dickhead who hasn't got a clue. I dread to think how many people fall for it!
