To be sick of this woman phoning?

KittyTwoShoes · 28/05/2010 11:50

Every day this week, at different times during the day, I've had phone calls from a woman in a call centre asking for my father. I explain he's at work, and the response is,

"Well now I have you on the line, may I have three minutes of your time..." and proceeds to give me a survey.

I answered the survey the first time and it wasn't 3 minutes, it was 10, but she keeps ringing back and asking for my dad. If he's at work when she rings, what makes them think that he won't be at work the next day? And why, when I say no she cannot have three minutes of my time and I do not want them phoning back as I've told my father she rang and he's not interested in their survey, do they keep calling back every single day?

It's doing my head in. I'm not being unreasonable to be sick of this, am I? I can't just not answer the phone, as she rings at different times on different days and I don't know it's her until I pick up.

That was for downdog by the way . Kitty, in your case perhaps you should ask annoying lady if you could have a few minutes of her time to talk about Jesus?

I've had this problem, I requested they remove my number from their system, they said they would...low and behold I got another call from them the next day!
I told them I had requested they remove my number, why had they not done it?! And guess what? The woman hung up on me!

Record the call, take her name and tell her you are recording the conversation and want her to KNOW you want your number removed from their system NOW.

:D

TPS wont make any difference, market research/survey people are not covered by that, only people trying to sell you something

MonarchoftheGarioch · 28/05/2010 14:46

Madam! May I very nervously recommend a more flattering shade of foundation? I'm guessing the make-up ladies at your local department store are too intimidated to make a suggestion

2blessed2bstressed · 28/05/2010 14:51

Lovin all these suggestions - in our house, we do the "hold on a wee minute" and buggering off one, and my dh takes (almost sadistic joy) pleasure in tearing up junk mail and returning shreds in prepaid envelope provided. What really bugs me are the "gifts" from charities. I recently received sheets of sticky labels with my name and address printed on them from the Red Cross and felt obliged to make a donation, even though I didn't want em and hadn't asked for em. I prefer to choose my charities and not be blackmailed into giving. Grrr

VoilaAnotherGimlet · 28/05/2010 15:04

A friend's husband does the I'm really interested/keen but would you hold on one moment?" thing and then periodically goes back and says "I'm really sorry, just on emore minute" and times how long they last - entertaining. (Friend is mnetter so may be along shortly to report his best record - remember it being pretty impressive)

FluffyDonkey · 28/05/2010 15:21

My friend used to work for a cold caller company. They got so fed up of being told to fuck off all the time that when one customer shouted abuse at them, they passed his number onto the next person's list and so on. So someone who was abusive would receive many calls in a row....

He laughed telling me that but also said he couldn't wait to leave that job because the atmosphere was horrible.

It's such a hard job that their target was 5 sales a month

rewardgirl · 28/05/2010 17:48

You can very politely ask her to take you off their "to call" list. It is then ILLEGAL for them not to do so and call you again...

Doesn't work as well with foreign callers, but anyone working for a UK company knows this rule generally.

ThistleWhistle · 28/05/2010 18:03

My Dad says "Oh, you want to talk to Mr X senior, I'll just see if I can find him. He was down at the bottom of the orchard which is a couple of fields away but if you hang on I'll get him." At which point they either say don't bother or he leaves them hanging on the line.

ThistleWhistle · 28/05/2010 18:07

btw they don't have fields or an orchard and my dad is nearly 70. He just says it to be an annoying git.

KittyTwoShoes · 28/05/2010 20:11

Haha, that's fantastic Thistle!

I have yet to convince British Gas that DH's Nan (who owned the house before us) is dead.

They've been calling for her for nearly 7 years now!!

I've taken to guit tripping the caller by telling them how upset it makes DH when people call for his dead Granny. It doesn't actually bother him but I enjoy hearing them apologise.

They still call back though.

Next time I'm going to answer the "can I speak to Mrs X" question with "yes, do you have a Ouija board?"

rightfootfirst · 28/05/2010 20:53

TPS takes up to 28 days to become active..and it isn't effective against calls made from outside the UK. Went through a 4 month period of computer-generated sales calls from somewhere in Eastern Europe, BT could do nothing to stop it. Turned my land line off and used mobile only.

outnumbered2to1 · 28/05/2010 21:03

tell them ever so politely to fuck off. i lost it after having 7 calls in the same day from the same call centre. I eventually bellowed down the phone DON'T FUCKING PHONE THIS NUMBER AGAIN after the arse on the other end told me i had "better mind my language missus"

outnumbered2to1 · 28/05/2010 21:06

oh and they called back the next day

Pekkala · 28/05/2010 21:26

I got called by an international survey company this week. The person on the other end got so annoyed with me (I was not rude, just a bit insistent that I needed a contact name and number for their company before I would give them any info.) that she screamed JUST SHUT UP! and cut the call off from her end. Result!
