to have told the clean eas woman that if she didn't want me to bin her catalogues she shouldn't put them through my door?

Knock on door from woman wanting her catalogue back. Tbh I pick up everything that comes through the door and stick it on the desk where dh then recycles the junk (which makes up a decent proportion of it.

So I say to her "sorry, dh has probably binned it." at which point she gets quite agressive and says "I have to pay for those! You can't do that!" To which I replied "well, if you don't want it binning don't put it through my door." She wasn't happy.

The companies tend to have websites these days so I would order from those rather than a catalogue through the door.

pigletmania · 28/05/2010 12:23

I just throw it back out by my doorstep when it comes throught the post (we have an open porch to keep it dry). YANBU at all they should understand that not everone wants them and that some people might actually throw it away.

dolphin13 · 28/05/2010 12:26

I hate them and am guilty of threatening to bin them if they kept being put through my door.

However, these people are just trying to earn a living. Would you rather they claimed benefits and made no effort to work.

Just leave the book out with a note asking that they don't deliver to you in future. If they do then you would not BU if you binned it.

brimfull · 28/05/2010 12:29

yanbu
those bloody catalohues get on my tits
messing up my porch for days on end
I'm gonna put sign up now

"take your catalogues and shove 'em up yer arse'

WilfShelf · 28/05/2010 12:33

yanbu
If they are so worried about them and want to deliver them, they should knock and ask first, therefore wasting their own time, instead of assuming you will care about it...

Morloth · 28/05/2010 12:34

We have a sign saying no junk/catalogues.

I check that it isn't mail and the rest goes into the recycling bag that is kept in the shared hallway for just this reason - when it is full, either my neighbour or I put it out and replace with a fresh one.

So not my problem.

thumbwitch · 28/05/2010 12:36

I would have kept the first one, waited for her to call for it and politely told her that I wasn't interested.

Whenever I got them, they always had a note on them saying when they would be collected - sometimes I wanted something, sometimes not. If I didn't want anything, I left it on the step in its plastic bag to be picked up by the seller. No hardship involved, tbh.

So - I think YABsomewhatU, yes.

RustyBear · 28/05/2010 12:36

I would actually have liked the last Kleeneze person to have knocked when they found the catalogue wasn't outside, because I had actually ordered something, but then forgot to leave it out. I rang the number they gave and left a message, but no-one has ever come back...

matumble · 28/05/2010 12:50

the problem with that rusty is then you can get aggressive responses.

I do Avon and make more than i spend on catalogues, I enjoy doing it, it gets me out and I make a little money from it, its not about living some lavish lifestyle. I see my catalogues as an expense just the same as any job or business has expenses.

The problem with Kleeneze (back in the distant past dh and i were sold that idea!) is you are told that becoming a millionaire is possible, and it is but only with serious effort, its pretty much pyramid selling though they say it isn't.

In both cases if a book doesn't come back its not been a problem for me and if someone says they aren't interested its the last book they see.If people want to order that's great, if they don't I don't intend to be a pain to them.

Thediaryofanobody · 28/05/2010 12:57

YANBU it's junk mail, in our house junk mail goes straight in the bin.
If they are really so presious about them they should knock on the door and ask if you would like one.

Thediaryofanobody · 28/05/2010 12:57

Oops Precious.

Mishy1234 · 28/05/2010 13:10

IMO you're NBU. If someone puts it through your door then they should expect it to be thrown away if you don't want it. They must know from experience that this happens?

I used to throw them away until I realised that they do have to pay for them. Now I just put them straight back outside.

wasuup3000 · 28/05/2010 13:17

Hi Carousel

I don't do Avon anymore as it was too time consuming and I have children with SEN and a preschooler. I did have good customers but it wasn't worth doing for the amount of time I could put into it. Yes you expect to not get books back which was why I thought that you may have a new kleenze rep who didn't know the ropes and that your house was a no point putting a book through there house. Either way she was rude to you and obviously lacks the skills to become a success.

OrmRenewed · 28/05/2010 13:18

It's her living. Why not make a little effort to put it aside and keep it for a few days.

louloulouise · 28/05/2010 13:36

I had this too, I left the catalogue outside all day and she still hadn't come by evening so I recycled it all and she came about half hr later and said she would be getting her manager to come round and 'have a word' when I told her I'd got rid of it.

Eventually I ended up saying that I can do what I like with unsolicited mail and I don't like receiving the things in the first place. She made a note of my address, hopefully so as not to deliver again rather than send a hitman round or something!

wasuup3000 · 28/05/2010 13:38

Nutter!

sapell3 · 28/05/2010 13:43

Door-to-door sales must be a horrible job unless you are extremely thick-skinned. I don't mind the polite ones, far better than the smarmy ones that ask "how are you?" or "are you the homeowner?"

phoenixflower · 28/05/2010 13:46

YANBU. I have always wanted to throw mine in the bin but have never dared. I just shove it in the porch and wait for them to collect.

GetOrfMoiLand · 28/05/2010 13:47

I don't understand anyone buying things from Kleeneze - it costs a bloody fortune.

RustyBear · 28/05/2010 13:54

I don't normally, but it's the only place I've found an inhaler with a flexible face mask - I had one before & it cracked when I was coming home from holiday. The one I got from Boots is rigid & so tall I can't sit comfortably with it and the steam vent faces you, which means you get steam coming out towards you & if you tip it even slightly, the water escapes. I'd rather pay a bit more to get one I can use comfortably.

screamingskull · 28/05/2010 13:56

someone deliverd them in our close 3 weeks ago and never been back to collect!!!!!

I have taken mine inside and put in the bin, others still have them at the front door [confussed]

Really do not think they will be coming to collect it now, wish the lazy buggers would now bin them

MrsC2010 · 28/05/2010 14:02

We struggle with this because we live in a lovely little terrace on a busy-ish road. Therefore we don't have a doorstep. I have tried propping it up against the door before and it either doesn't get taken or gets kicked/blown away and has ended up further down the road as litter. So in future I'll be leaving it out for a day (or on whatever day specified) and if it doesn't go it'll get binned. Tough!

hmc · 28/05/2010 14:03

YANBU

While I try and support local business as much as possible, I find Kleeneze rather aggressive. Fine, leave a catalogue, but don't be surprised if people chuck it out because the stuff is shit terribly expensive.

I did the same as WannaBe and threw mine into the recycling bin, and when they called around, did sort of point out that there's a sign on my door saying, 'nothing unsolicited'.

The funny part is that the Kleeneze agent said that it was criminal damage because I didn't give it back or something, so suggested they call the police and see how fast they respond.

But they don't leave catalogues anymore....
