to be sad that my car might be scrapped?

I was involved in a collision yesterday (not my fault, honest!) and am waiting for the garage to pick up my car. As it's quite old it might get scrapped rather than repaired, so I've just emptied the contents in case it doesn't come back , and given it a quick vacuum in case it does .

It's been a great car, ferried me to hospital in labour, brought home my babies, covered thounsands on miles on family holidays and trips.

So AIBU to be sitting here with a tear running down my cheek?

Ahh, you have such happy memories, I hope your car doesn't get scrapped, it's like moving home except that you hope the next family enjoys it and looks after it like you did but this is more like a bereavement, in that it's not your choice to scrap the car if you get me. We had a car once that dp loved and it died. He looked very mournful as he watched the big pinchy crane lift it onto the pile at the scrap yard.

I wrote off my first ever car last year and almost shed a tear too, when the lorry with the crane thingy on the back came to take it to the scrap yard.

Awww, such sad stories. I am feeling guilty now because I'm excited to drive the lovely clean, fragrant, shiney courtesy car parked outside.

YANBU. It's amazing how attached you can get to a car.
