DP and I are having a disagreement about what is right or wrong and it is very silly lol. So I am passing it over to the MN Jury,....
DS2 has potty trained himself in a matter of a week. He has now stopped wearing a nappy of an evening through choice. DP says he MUST wear pjs, but DS2 is a bit of a nudist.

I say it makes no difference at this age but DP disagrees and thinks i should be making DS2 wear pj's or pants in bed....I just think that it is easier not to stress him out while he is becoming used to being dry day and night....

So who is right and who is wrong??

Slarty, how could scratching his bum cause worms? Surely he would already have them is there were any round his anus. Plus its not that hard to scratch your bum with boxers or pjs on.

NobleFrangipani · 26/05/2010 22:32

Oh, that is sad. Poor DH.

honeydragon · 26/05/2010 22:33

ds - now 7 still sleeps butt nekkid as he refers it when he is hot, however if we have company he is expected to wear boxers as a compromise ....would that help you?

glitterstar88 · 26/05/2010 22:33

you are right, DS1 (4.5yr) often goes to bed naked apart from a nappy and socks. I wish he would stay dry through the night, but hes such a heavy wetter.

well done to your DS for potty training so quickly!

SlartyBartFast · 26/05/2010 22:35

worms lay their eggs in the anus, you scratch you bottom, the eggs get under the nails, you bite your nails, eggs in the system again..

so i think that is a good reason.

TheLadyEvenstar · 26/05/2010 22:35

I must admit to raising my eyebrow on more than one occassion when he tells me what the ex insisted on tbh!!

DS2 is only 2 so he doesn't go on any sleepovers yet lol he does own loads of pjs in an attempt to get him to wear them but it just doesn't work....he is like me and likes to be free lol

TheLadyEvenstar · 26/05/2010 22:41

Glitter, I had months of people telling me he should be dry but i stuck to my guns and let him decide when he was ready...the result was 3 days and he was dry in the day and the last 2 nights he has been dry as well...am a very proud mummy lol

Slartybartfast - scartching your bottom will not cause worms, which is what you first stated. Your advice is good for if you do have worms - restricting access for scratching will help to break the cycle.

So... if you are worm free, no reason why you shouldn't sleep totally naked

ant3nna · 26/05/2010 22:42

But Slarty, he would already have to have worms for eggs to be laid in the anus. If he gets worms then I guess you insist on pants but IMO its not necessary most of the time.

BertieBotts · 26/05/2010 22:44

I used to sleep naked, until I started co-sleeping with DS, my arm always ends up out of the covers so I get cold.

But now I am on my own I feel really odd sleeping naked. I feel as though because I am the only adult in the house, I should really wear something, just in case we have an intruder in the middle of the night and I need to go and club him with a cricket bat or something.

Not that I even own a cricket bat, or would be brave enough to go and attack an intruder, but you know...

mrspir8 · 26/05/2010 22:44

/pedant. Scratching his bum wont cause worms-the only thing it will is cause the continuation of the worms life cycle. i.e he will have to have had worms first!

Let the lad choose-as I child i was never allowed to wear pants in bed-gotta let it breathe!

NobleFrangipani · 26/05/2010 22:45

There's an Icelandic saga in which a woman deters intruders to her land by baring her breasts at them, Bertie - maybe you should rethink?

TiggyR · 26/05/2010 22:47

You are right! My DS always hated PJs and would strip off at the first opportunity - he gets really hot in bed. He's ten now and he recently announced to me that he'd decided to start wearing pyjamas. Then he added, 'Well, I might still sleep nude sometimes, just on special occasions.'

marriednotdead · 26/05/2010 22:48

This thread has really made me think!
DD always wears nightwear of some description as she's always cold, ds wears boxers in summer, pj bottoms in winter.
We overhead a very serious but amusing debate conversation between ds and dss when they were about 10, where they eventually concluded that you had to be a grown up to sleep naked.
It just seems to be 'the norm' for many of us, and for some, nakedness in children (even in bed) seems almost sexual and therefore grossly inappropriate.
Think you need to discuss further/delve deeper.

TheLadyEvenstar · 26/05/2010 22:49

Noble tut now you know why i never have an intruder because i sleep nekkid lol one look at me and they leg it!

MND, DP was in a relationship for 22yrs before we met and tbh from meeting her and what i have heard she is an odd one.
She didn't like the boys being naked in the home when they were younger but up until contact with youngest son ceased which was 18m ago he was still sleeping in mummys bed when she/he felt like it...and he was 14 rising 15 then.

mumbar · 26/05/2010 23:02

you are right as IME when DS got hot at night he would toss and turn and if he woke briefly it would kick start his bladder.

BertieBotts · 26/05/2010 23:10

PMSL, Noble, my breasts wouldn't scare off a fly. Even DS laughs at them! Although I think that's more to do with his recent rediscovery that he can make them squirt milk if he squeezes them just right

Although actually I think an intruder might be suitably freaked out by a mad naked woman standing squirting milk at them, maybe I should reconsider.

marriednotdead · 26/05/2010 23:18

TLE, that is creepy a bit strange.
So is she by the sounds of it.
Looks like you will have to reprogramme DP

BertieBotts, now that I am on my own, I feel odd about sleeping naked, which I never did before.. Feel less odd about it now though, knowing that I should be wielding a cricket bat / squirting breastmilk at any intruder... Let them be doused in bodily fluids, should they encroach upon my turf break in... Apparently I DO have some lethal weapons at my disposal!!!
