i know this and variants of it have been done many times, so just having a rant really. Parked in multi storey today, spaces ARE narrow and almost every one has concrete posts making them even worse, blocking doors, can't get pushchair past them etc so I spent some time choosing one that gave me the best possible access to both sides and boot. I parked with the drivers side as close to the posts as I could whilst still being able to get out so that I would have max room on DS's side (which was empty when I parked). When I returned a massive great huge tank 4x4 was parked within 6 inches of DS side's door. How the fuck did this person think I was going to open those doors? Not everyone is able to clamber over from one side to the other leave a child while you move the car out. Just inconsiderate to park so close (there were LOTS of other spaces available also). I left a note, not rude, but pointed.
and breathe...
thanks for sticking with it to the end!!

People who park 6 inches away from your car deserve to get dents in their door IMO. Thoughtless and inconsiderate.

pjmama is right.
i have to admit to having opened my car door VERY forcefully into some twat who did this to me in sainsburys carpark
the reason he had parked soooo close to me was because he wasn't actually in a fucking space, he was parked on the cross hatchings next to me p&t space!!!!

what pjmama said

Leaving a note is the only way some people will wake up and realize. My older brother is always parking his tiny car so that it's on/over the lines and it drives me mad - he always says pedantically that he is 'just about in the lines and they should be able to squeeze in'.

In fact, if you'd said it was a little red car not a big tank, I'd have hoped it was DB.

MrKiplingismypimp · 26/05/2010 16:45

I drive a vintage spearmint skoda. People are terrified to park too close to me in case my poverty rubs off on them as I open the door.

Its great!

off topic, but I got shouted at the other day by a woman for using a P and T space with my 9 week old baby. I was breastfeeding her in the passenger seat after a long shop (didn't want to use "feeding chair" in disabled loo cubicle) and she started ranting about how selfish I was for parking there without a toddler.

Ihatepink · 26/05/2010 16:58

Problem with opening your doors into another car is that you dent your own!

Tiredmumno1 · 26/05/2010 17:05

Pure ignorance!

mosschops30 · 26/05/2010 17:09

did you accidentally scrape the side of 'his' 4x4 with your keys as you walked past

tosser, this is why I park over 2 spaces, life is so much simpler that way

AuntieMaggie · 26/05/2010 17:10

How do you know the driver hasn't parked like that because of who was parked on the other side of them when they parked?

mistletoekisses · 26/05/2010 17:15

I dont drive a 4 by 4. But I do affectionately call it 'the bus'.

In some car parks, even when well within the lines, it is squeezed into spaces. Leaving me/ other car little room to get in/ out. Unless I find a different car park to park in(not possible, only one available), what do you propose I do?

Blame the people who build such tight fitting car parks to maximise money. Not drivers of larger cars.

As for all those door denters/ key scratchers. One word. Karma.

Bumperlicious · 26/05/2010 17:16

People are idiots. I remember a good few times having to leave me DD in her car seat and reverse my car out of a space to get her in. Now I am 23 weeks pg and am going to struggle again when twats park too close! Good on you for leaving a note.

trixie123 · 26/05/2010 17:50

Minthumbug, there were plenty of other spaces at all times and there was no-one on the other side of that space when I parked or when I got back, about 2 hours later so not very likely that there was. Agree that spaces could be wider as they are barely big enough for a normal car but if you are going to drive a tank around a town then you need to use a different car park - they do exist. The last time something similar happened in the same car park I came back just as the woman who had parked over the line blocking my drivers door was getting out of her car and huffed and puffed at me when I made her move so i could get in without clambering over the gear stick! Really is a problem when you are pregnant too! Although normally I would tut at it, these huge cars perhaps are better parked over two spaces if there are plenty of empty ones.

Ihatepink... yes! thankfullhy i had a car I hated at the time which was also worth bugger all, so i didn't mind taking one on the chin so to speak! lol

thisisyesterday · 26/05/2010 18:05

are spaces narrower do we think? or are cars bigger?

or a bit of both?

jenduff · 26/05/2010 18:14

thisisyesterday yes both i htink

kickassangel · 26/05/2010 18:31

i used to live near cambridge. if you parked so that your tyres were on/over the lines, you got fined. neither were you allowed to buy two parking tickets & use two spaces if you needed to. inside the city there was not ONE parking space able to fit a school mini bus in. mini buses were not allowed to use coach parking either. As a teacher, i needed to be able to park the mini bus - it wasn't much bigger than a 4x4.

some councils just like to make as many spaces as possible, which just makes it harder. some people just 'abandon' their vehicle rather than parking it.
