To think that they should use my title and surname?

For the past two days I have received a call each day from 3 mobile on my land line. I do not have a mobile with them nor have I ever. I am registered with TPS so I shouldn't really receive marketing calls but that's a different story!

Both times the caller has said "Hi is that Angel?" I've responded that it is to which they have then identified themselves.

When did it become common practice for someone to phone you, trying to sell you something, and greet you with HI - not hello and your FIRST name???

Call me old fashioned if you will but I thought it was courtesy to call someone by their title and surname or even just full name?

AIBU or am I just getting old???

I wonder if this is a new way of them avoiding people hanging up the phone before they've got to their sales pitch.

you shoudl jsut ask who is calling? that way you can or can not be anglea and instead be Mrs 886 or even madam 886

i like using my alias as I use it for all forms and then when they sell the form whether it be I filled it in a shop or on the internet, then I get marketing on my phone - I knows it marketing cos they alway use the alias I have put down and I say no sorry wrong number...

I always use the same alias -Mrs T Art they never seem to notice though...

YANBU. Agree that "who's calling?" would be a good response.

Hmmm I think I'll try that. Who in the right mind would buy from them with such an informal approach?

YANBU. I agree with Irons, sounds like it's a way to keep you on the line - as soon as a caller says "Hello, can I speak to Mrs WYLI", I am on my guard.

I've become all crabby now I'm old (and wear purple with a red hat ). On the very rare occasions I pick up the phone the caller gets a very sharp "who's calling!", without even a "please". Puts them on the back foot because obviously I sound like a ninja-pensioner.

If it's a legitimate caller then I turn into a warm-hearted person, because I value that call and a legitimate caller knows that.

If it isn't a legitimate caller they get a sharp "do you know nothing of the telephone preference service?". These days I get a mumbled response which may or may not include a sorry before I slam the phone down.

I like being in control - and anyone who phones or rings the doorbell had better realise that. I am a polite person, but only to those who are polite to me. Your house, your phone, your front door, your children, your whatever - if it's yours, you set the boundaries.
