AIBU to think weeing in the garden is revolting?

My next-door neighbour's four-year-old boy stands and wees in a corner of their patio - he was doing it all last summer and now that the weather's improved it's clear that he hasn't forgotten about it. I think it's a dreadful and unnecessary habit, especially given that they have a downstairs loo (although we don't, and DS just asks for his potty whenever he needs it). Almost as bad as weeing on the kitchen floor.

DS1 and 2 have never done the weeing outside thing (unless in an emergency)........however DS3 isn't yet potty trained so there's still time for me to go through all of that

Years ago I went with my boyfriend to Uganda and Tanzania on an overland trip in a truck. Over there if you are in the market place, men do it all over the place in full view of everyone and the toilets (long drops) don't have doors.
The local women thought that us white women were hilarious when we had to stop off for a wee and we were trying to hide our modesty .

I wouldn't allow my ds's to wee in the garden, they can go inside, but today, we were at the park and ds1 (2.9) needed togo so we went to a corner just outside play area and he did it there.
If you have to go, you have to go, but IMO, if there's a toilet available, there is no excuse fornot using it.

Would you be aghast at a neighbours dog weeing
( and indeed pooing) in the garden? Maybe not,
as that's what dogs do. And a little boy's wee is
surely less offensive, as a substance. And as for the behaviour, it will pass, and imo, in the grand scheme of things is pretty harmless.

BuzzingNoise · 23/05/2010 08:47

I don't like it but I have a friend who lets her son do it. Horses for courses, I guess.

MumNWLondon · 23/05/2010 08:50

Would not let DS (4) wee on patio but don't mind in flowerbed.

mumbar · 23/05/2010 09:10

OH BRAN LOL!!!!

Do think boys love to pee outside.

Last week boy in my flats, (18ish) had a party. We have a very large communal gardens with flower beds around it. One of his mates turned up, walked to the flower beds peed then went and knocked on his patio door to be let in. .

Wasn't best amused but pick your battles and all that.

I'm a bit concerend about what I'm teaching my son. We have 1 bathroom and I have a bowel condition. When I'm bad and know i'll be in bathroom for a long time I leave a plastic bucket outside for DS in emergencies!!! He pees in it no problems!!!

It probably helps to keep the neighbouring cats at bay. They are probably pooing in your garden instead

overmydeadbody · 23/05/2010 09:22

On a patio is a bit grim, if wee just then pools there and dries on to the wood

But out in the garden, on the grass or flowerbeds or bushes etc etc where it can just soak into the ground is not revolting at all. Far more revolting things live in the soil than a bit of wee!

Morloth · 23/05/2010 09:59

DS wees in the garden every morning, he and DH appear to run to the same schedule and DH sure as hell isn't doing it.

The plants don't mind.

MPuppykin · 23/05/2010 11:57

Ripeberry's and Waltons comments about men weeing in public in other countries reminds me of when many years ago I was living in Central Asia. Was in a car with a friend and her 7 year old DD when we passed a man weeing on the wall. The 7 year old said in a contemplative, meditative voice 'Oh, wherever you go in this country you see someone pissing'.

RunawayWife · 23/05/2010 12:10

It is disgusting and will smell in this heat.

Although if they have foxes maybe they are just marking their territory to get rid of them..

/walks away whistling and thinking of the time I made DP pee in to a bottle so I could get rid of a fox...yes it works

Ryoko · 23/05/2010 12:42

Maybe they confused the kid for a dog, does he happen to wee on newspapers .

Actually after reading the post heading I was going to come in here and say a lot of things wee in gardens so who cares, but if he's weeing on a patio if it stinks the place up when the sun shines on it maybe you should complain to the council.

Ihatepink · 23/05/2010 12:46

Reading this I thought of this article I read.

Funny!

Oh - sorry new to this news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/cambridgeshire/8357134.stm

I don't encourage it and always have a potty downstairs as we don't have a downstairs toilet. I have found DS on many occasions doing a wee outside. I don't stress about it, it's no worse than the neighbours cat poohing in our borders.

It's not something I would expect from an older child but toddlers like to experiment and this is all part of it.

IMO YABU.

mistletoekisses · 23/05/2010 19:20

YABU.

DS1 (2.8) did a few wees on the grass today when running around naked in the sprinkler. Am I going to tell him off? Not on your life! It's a little boy having fun!
