Beaten up by another girl while 4 boys looked on . She was on the floor being kicked in the head when a passers by called the police and intervened. FFS! She's a child
I've always been happy for my eldest to go out with his friends. And in theory DD too when she has the confidence to do so. DS is always back home by 7pm. But wondering now if that is too much freedom.

you mustn't let this force you to keep your own dc indoors. They need their freedom. Have the police been made aware? How old was the other girl? Not that it matters.

OrmRenewed · 21/05/2010 14:02

I'm not sure. School age as she is in the same school as the 13yr old.

Yes she was arrested. Not sure what that means with a minor though.

God that's terrible, poor girl. My own dd 12 has just started to go out and about on her own, tis a worry.

porcamiseria · 21/05/2010 14:04

poor thing, these things do happen though. I am NOT excusing it, but this is a horrible part of growing up. poor littlke thing

Dont curtail their freedon, but do report this vicious little slag to the police. What have they said or done? do you have any witnesses or photos of her injuries

fight back and get them into shit

whatwasthatagain · 21/05/2010 14:05

Crikey how awful. At least the poice turned up. Can I be nosey and ask in which area you live?

BAFE · 21/05/2010 14:06

Get your kids to self defence classes. I did and if nothing else, it will improve their confidence and self-esteem and they won't walk around looking like victims.

Hope your friends dd wasn't too badly hurt.

OrmRenewed · 21/05/2010 14:06

I don't know porca. My neighbour popped round earlier and told me. She doesn't know any more yet. She only found out a few days after the attack when the police came round - her DD hadn't told her.

Somerset. I'm sure these things go on all the time but it's the first time I've known anyone involved.

Her DD hadn't told her! Oh what is it with children? At what age do they stop telling you everything and start keeping BIG things secret? My DD is 10 and I think she is on the verge of not telling me stuff. Your neigbour must have been horrified when the police turned up.

Callisto · 21/05/2010 14:09

Actually, I don't think it is a part of growing up. I certainly never witnessed anything as vicious as this sounds when I was a child/teen.

I really hope the police do something about it and self defence classes sound an excellent idea.

OrmRenewed · 21/05/2010 14:10

Yes. She was.

Somerset - Bang goes my vision of a rural idyll. I also don't think it is a part of growing up, I think it is indicative of a general malaise which seems to trouble society.

OrmRenewed · 21/05/2010 14:13

It's not exactly rural idyll country It's Bridgwater!

But even so, I've still not come across this before. Quite a lot of little towns here are deprived and run down.

Of course it isn't part of growing up, because it doesn't happen to very many chldren! It's shocking, and horrible that it happened to this poor girl, and even in Somerset . But it certainly isn't part of my young teenagers experience (yet? touch wood/) in an inner-city area with a bad reputation!

Huge sympathy for the poor girl and her parents, but luckily it is a rare occurrence, and the more we teach our children to go out and about with confidence, the more positive-minded young people will be out there. The long-lasting damage of rare attacks like this is if hundreds of young pelope are kept at home as a result of fear.

porcamiseria · 21/05/2010 14:22

sorry I thought it was your DD Orm

Callisto, I kind of agree, but at my inner city comp this kind of shit happened. I think you have a point, my comment could look like I accept it, and I dont. really

that why people must get the police involved

OrmRenewed · 21/05/2010 17:09

No not mine, thank goodness!

Oh there were always things like this when I was young. Numerous numerous times. There were knives back then aswell (I joined secondary in 1990). I wouldn't be shocked to see this at all, not where I live. Quite worrying as I have 2 boys and things are even worse now
