To argue with a friend's friends on Facebook??

Ok, it's this football shirts/immigrants thing again for which I apologise.

A friend (not a close friend but a friend of my sister) has posted asking if it's true about police going round pubs telling people not to wear football shirts for fear of offending immigrants. I've replied saying it's bollocks. A load of her friends (who I don't know) have replied with the usual tiresome nonsense ranting about immigrants.

Would it be really bad form to point out that they're all a bunch of racist twats? And if so how do I best go about this?

just step away from FB, but report them for racist posts before you do.

Don't get involved

Tiredmumno1 · 20/05/2010 20:49

i am in 2 minds either ignore them or just let rip

Mowgli1970 · 20/05/2010 20:50

Ignore them. Block them. Don't get involved - it never ends well.

Tiredmumno1 · 20/05/2010 20:51

Either way there shallow minds will remain

cupcakesandbunting · 20/05/2010 20:52

Let rip. They're racists and racists are shitheads.

Then again, racists tend to be pigheaded and there'll be no reasoning with them, so you'll probably end up getting more wound up than they will. You need one pithy line to shut them up but I've had three a glasses of pinot and I'm at a loss to come up with one.

Where is ScottishMummy?

fruitstick · 20/05/2010 20:55

I do this all the time. Always getting into fights with people I've never heard of.

thisisyesterday · 20/05/2010 21:09

i had a right rant at someone who replied on a link i'd posted

turned out it was my friend's mum! oops

usualsuspect · 20/05/2010 21:11

best to just ignore really...leave the arguing to the teenagers ..my ds spends half his life arguing on fb

SolidGoldBrass · 20/05/2010 21:12

Oh give 'em hell. I had a good go at a friend of a friend the other day for posting rubbish about gender dysphoria eg that there is no such thing and transgendered people are making a fuss about nothing etc.... I routinely stick the boot in to numptyisms on FB and only very, very rarely get bleated at by friends for it.

MrsGravy · 20/05/2010 21:13

cupcakes you're right - I need one pithy line. I'm heavily pregnant and can only do incoherent over the top ranting at the moment.

Two ways of looking at this. If a comment is posted on someones wall, it is a public place, so invites comments. Otoh, you may well offend your friend if you argue with their friends. People are entitled to think what they like. Neither side will change its view, so you will end up arguing and getting stressed. If I was pg I would leave it be and argue here instead

you could just correct them and also post a linc to newspaper story with the facts if you can find one

cupcakesandbunting · 20/05/2010 21:30

If they're the usual illiterate morons, you can use this one that I used earlier;

Funny how the ones protesting for "Engerlund" so vigorously are the ones who have a very poor grasp of the English language.

Portofino · 20/05/2010 21:31

I just "liked" the Xenophobic fools one. Maybe it will give one of my family members something to think about

MrsGravy · 20/05/2010 22:03

Thanks everyone. The red mist has vanished and been replaced by lethargy. I've liked the Xenophobic fools group but other than that I've let it go!
