DS1 has RAS -Reflex Anoxic Seizures he was finally diagnosed at the age of 5. Now age 11 they are few and far between.

DS2 has slipped off the back of the sofa onto the seat and knocked his chin on a bottle of pop, he went all floppy and quiet until i grabbed him up and startled him.

AIBU to be praying this is not the same?? while i am not panicking I don't think i can cope with 2 of them!!!

Afraid I don't know anything about RAS, but of course YNBU. I hope your DS is ok, take him to be checked out and voice your worries.

I have to say ive never met anybody whos child has these. Its bloody scary when it happens. My dd was diagnosed last year. How do his work?

BTW you are deff nbu. Think i would freak out if the twins ended up with it as well.

TheLadyEvenstar · 19/05/2010 22:47

With DS1 it is pain that makes him go...or thirst. Although 9/10 times it is pain.

I so hope DS2 is not the same

My dd its pain although last week i couldnt find any reason at all for it. Do you mind me asking what happens to him when he has 1. My dd says shes dizzy then colapses, shakes a little then is sick. After that shes drowsy and confused for about an hour. Just curious to what happens with other children that have it

starshaker · 19/05/2010 22:57

Oh and another thing, when your ds1 was younger did he respond to pain?

TheLadyEvenstar · 19/05/2010 23:08

First time it happened with DS1 he was 3 1.2 yrs old he had an infection in his thumb and one night woke up told me he loved me and collapsed. Obviously i took him to hospital, they had no idea what had happened. Then it started happening more frequently. Each time he tells me he loves me before he collapses.
He also feels dizzy before.

have you joined the RAS site? think it is STARS.

No didnt know there was 1. You have no idea how good it feels to know its not just my dd (sorry your having to deal with it aswell btw). Do people ever say to you "ahhh so its just breath holding then" as if she is deliberatly causing them?

TheLadyEvenstar · 19/05/2010 23:15

I think my friends DS has this. The local A&E & GP dont seem to take it very seriously.
He seem to pass out when he hits his head. My friend has had to do a few rescue breaths before.
Terrifying for you all.

Ronshar and Star,

yes, i've seen a child with this, it's got to be absolutely terrifying for everyone. My heart goes out to you all. Glad you've hooked up on here tho, great news!

ronshar · 21/05/2010 10:46

Thank you TLE. I will forward the link to my friend. I'm sure it will be of great help for her.
Doctors just seem to brush it off.
