thinking I can potty train in 3 days?

dd has been using the potty for a couple of weeks in the house but against her will, wears a nappy on outside. She is in nursery ft and never asks to go there as she is too nosey and would rather play wth her friends so I never have enough confideence to send her with knickers on.

With the bank hoilday weekend near, I thought I would use the extra day as an opportunity to put her in knickers and deal with the rest when it happens.

Is 3 days a realistic time scale for potty training, so that she is in knickers full time, trips out and number 2's included?

Just a quick tip for car journeys. We used to put a pampers caremat in the car seat so that if she did wee in the car, at least it was only her we had to clean up!!

We did the same with DD (3rd child and I'd had enough of nappies!!) when she was 2 1/2. We started on the Friday and she would go hours without weeing then when she had a nap would do one in her nappy!! She cracked it on the Tuesday and was more or less fine from then on. We did have odd accidents but not that often.

Nursery should be used to dealing with it and at least you've got 3 days to get her used to it.

A lot of it depends on knowing your child's particular foibles. DS1 who always liked things done in their proper place was trained from almost the moment he grasped that potties were for peeing in. Which is what I'd expected. It helped that he was born in early Summer and was showing signs of being ready just after 2. DS2 who was always an existentialist, liked nice warm, damp nappies and although he was trained by two and a half, the process could never have been achieved over a weekend!

Incidentally, while ds1 was the easiest child to train for pees, he was a tad, er, anal about poos and initially would disappearing into the shed in order to take a dump.

Good luck though. You've nothing to lose but the nappies.

No harm in trying but be ready to call it a day if it's just not working and leave it for a bit.

DS1 could be dry, but not reliably so, from about 2 and a half. We tried, failed, then left it for a bit and it wasn't until he decided one day that he wasn't wearing pull-ups any more that we cracked it (just before he turned 3). Actually, he decided at my brother's wedding, so a nail-biting afternoon all round !

Good luck !

If she's ready, she's ready.

Can she take things down and pull them up?
Does she know when things are coming out?
Does she want to sit on a potty?
Can she sit still on a potty for a few minutes?

Good luck.

Thanks for all the tips. I am feeling a whole lot more positive now!

I'm going to get some bed mats for the car and a folding potty thing tomorrow and a few packs of cheap knickers and socks. She's got about 10 pairs of each but im guessing that wont be enough!

She goes on the potty in the morning and stays nappyless til nursery, so about 2 hours. Then at nursery she doesn't ask to go and says 'no' if they ask her. When she gets home, again, she takes her nappy off and goes on the potty til bedtime so I think she's more than ready. She's been getting dressed and undressed herself (of a fashion!) this week too so showing all the signs. I just wanted 3 days of 'intensive' training to get it into her head that she can go at nursery. They have a little mini toilet and I think that might be putting her off so i'll get her a potty for there too, she doesn't seem keen on the toilet.

I'm quite looking forward to it now
