OMG...are these things THE most anti-social gadget known to man?

Is it just me? This is really beginning to fucking infuriate me!!!

What do you do without nagging?!

Every time I turn my head to look at my beloved he is transfixed by the bloody thing, updating himself on some score of a sport he doesn't even watch, or something on eBay he probably had no intention of ever buying?!

I have a colleague who has one too, who is constantly on bloody Facebook - to the point where at our Xmas dinner the sodding thing was sat on the table and she updated her FB status - constantly - in my book that is just plain fucking rude!!

And breathe.................

THEY ARE JUST JUST JUST THE BEST

ant3nna · 18/05/2010 18:03

I went out with a group of friends the other week and they were mightily surprised when I turned my phone to silent as we entered the restaurant.

I was met with s all round when I said that I thought it was rude to let it ring while at the table. They honestly thought it was ruder to ignore my phone and any calls or texts than to answer it and ignore the people I was actually sitting with.

WhereYouLeftIt · 18/05/2010 18:07

The novelty wears off, honest.

Ladyanonymous · 18/05/2010 18:14

When WhereYouLeftIt WHEN?????

This is sooo funny. From any other thread you have seen me on you will see that i have more adoration and love for my DP than any other woman on earth has had for any man and he can do no wrong in my eyes.. (apart from give in to his ex's demands for cash..for another thread!)

BUT on the subject of mobile fucking phones I am regularly FUMING! And I actually havent said anything because it only annoys me when we are in the presence of others, when of course it would be crass to pull him up on it. Then when we have left wherever we are I forget all about it... until reading this!

Like you OP, its the checking of the sports scores ARGHHHHHHHHHHH!! Why is it necessary to know these at every minute of the day?

I would never in a million years even consider sending a text message whilst at his sisters house or aunties on a sunday afternoon. But he will quite happily sit in the lounge with my or his family (who we dont see often) looking at BBC sport on his phone while I make idle chit chat GRRRRR!!

He is a super intelligent, sociable, charming, funny guy... but gets totally taken in by this piece of technology why why why?

Ok, Im not AS annoyed as I sound but I do love a good rant!

shockers · 18/05/2010 18:17

Will you 'do' my DH's with the other foot?

LoveBeingAHungParliament · 18/05/2010 18:20

it's terrible yes kill it!

Ladyanonymous · 18/05/2010 18:37

shockers

With inane pleasure

Foureleven - Does he read the minute by minute accounts on the BBC news site too??

Anyone else's DH/DP discovered Angry Birds?

SuSylvester · 18/05/2010 18:42

no my kids

mollybob · 18/05/2010 18:46

Oops - guilty as charged - a recent acquisition to help me through the last few weeks of the longest pregnancy ever and the upcoming night feeds. Haven't been anywhere lately so haven't used it in public but have always switched previous phones onto silent in company unless urgent phone call likely (ie family member ill/on call for emergencies at work/parents baby sitting)

(I do love that I can watch Ashes to Ashes repeats on iplayer on it though - looking for clues before Fridays finale and lusting after Gene Hunt)

compo · 18/05/2010 18:47

I check my email in the loo when on a night out

Ladyanonymous · 18/05/2010 19:56

OMG....what if he starts watching movies on the bloody thing....??!!!

Angry birds is fab!

Anyone found Mobile Porn Hub????? You can choose your predeliction

Obviously would prefer a Mumsnet app though.

Wanderingsheep · 18/05/2010 20:07

YABU! The iPhone is the best invention ever! although I don't really use mine in public just at home.

Wanderingsheep · 18/05/2010 20:09

I love Angry Birds! So addictive and frustrating!

ChunkyMonkeysMum · 18/05/2010 20:13

Oh yes, bluejeans, he's actually playing Angry Birds right at this moment !!!! The sad thing is, he has actually completed all levels, but is now going back through trying to get 3 stars on every level !!!

accessorizequeen · 18/05/2010 20:15

Dp & I both have them, he brings it to bed but I am equally guilty at times. Have had to fight my addiction of late as I clearly don't have a life. Having said that, it has made a lot of things in my life much much easier, it's just the games that take over for both of us. I would like for us both to cut down as ds1 getting hooked on the games when I allow him on it now and again.
I am thinking of making a deal with dp about times during the day/evening when it's put away, otherwise we sit on the sofa both on our iphones. God we're sad. I do see it as the little bit of fun I can squeeze in the day with 4 young children tho.

CharlieBoo · 18/05/2010 20:17

You really need to get one. Then you will see why he will never get bored of it!

I am bad though my dp always says there's 3 of us in the relationship!

lovechoc · 18/05/2010 20:29

DH takes his phone to bed with him and does all sorts of stuff on it. when we are in the lounge spending time together he's on the bloody thing too. I feel your pain!!

I cannot stop myself from nagging about it.

bluejeans · 18/05/2010 20:30

Chunkymonkeysmum - snap!

lovechoc · 18/05/2010 20:32

But where do you get the time with young DC to play on a phone?? surely you should spend time with them instead during the day?

compo · 18/05/2010 20:33

well they can be playing with their toys while you are on your phone or exapmple lovechoc, or eating their tea etc etc

Rockbird · 18/05/2010 20:38

Sorry YABtotallyU. They are the best invention ever. My 2yo is a whizz on mine. I'm a gadget freak but these kids will leave us behind, I'm telling ya!

ClaireDeLoon · 18/05/2010 20:41

I give mine to DP to play with when I want to read a book in peace and quiet. Best invention ever.
