To think that washable should mean washable?

DD loves drawing. So I bought her some pens, Berol ones that are supposed to be washable. Except they bloody aren't, and have stained her clothes and her skin.
Anyone been there? What pens are easy to wash off? Or are there not any and should I just be putting her in a big plastic suit before I hand her them?

I find the crayola ones wash off skin with baby wipes and out of clothes even on a cold wash.

They are just quite expensive and don't last very long. We get maybe a fortnight out of them at most. I've stopped buying them all together now she has discovered glueing and sticking

ELC does some really good washable ones - will come out of just about anything easily enough.

The only problem with them is that they don't completely dry (which is why they probably are so washable) which is a pain.

Thanks for that NewBird and Armadillo
Not really an AIBU topic I know but I was annoyed enough for it to be!

Anyone else?

Crayola ones yes have always come out of DS' clothes. They seem to stain skin (he had some awful looking red marks covering his tummy and the bottom of his back even after a bath, was a good job I knew it was pen or I would have been worried!)

I have had mine for ages and they have lasted, I am very insistent that lids always go back on after use though and DS only uses them under supervision since I caught him colouring in a library book

I got caught out by some paint at nursery that was supposed to be washable and didn't wash out properly.

When I raised it with them, seems that 'washable' does not mean the same as 'will not stain' . Seems that washable just means the ink or paint will wash off the clothes (think how paint can go dry and crusty, this is the bit that is 'washable'and will wash off. However it can still leave behind a stain - because conveniently in crayon/paint manufacturer lingo - you don't expect stains to wash out, that would be unreasonable...

You'd think they could make non-stain pens for kids by now
Re nursery paint. Yes, I have learned to use vanish on paint-marked clothes otherwise they stain. Bit of a PITA and makes me want to buy navy clothes!
