I know, I know, I am used to the continental warmer weather but I still find it really sweet when my parents go, "Oooooh, it is going to be 19°C on Thursday, that is really hot".

We will still be wearing cardigans until it is well over 20°C, while the Brits are in their strappy tops and bikinis.

I wish. 23 sounds perfect. Add on another twenty for me. Now that is shite. 23 sounds heavenly. Actually 10 sounds heavenly to be honest.

Ozziegirly · 17/05/2010 04:21

We had the fire lit yesterday as well Claudia, and I have a blanket as well as a duvet on the bed.

But I'm not being all irritating about it, I am genuinely quite chilly.

It truly is weird/clever how the human body can acclimatise.

Eralc · 17/05/2010 07:07

We have only been in Oz a short time and have clearly not acclimatised yet - everyone else is walking round in coats and long trousers today and talking about how winter is here, and I'm still in a short sleeved t-shirt, and thinking it's quite pleasantly warm!

ben5 · 17/05/2010 07:21

eralc you'll get used to it! what part have you moved to?

Eralc · 17/05/2010 07:28

We are in Sydney, and having a fab time so far!

My favourite is when they say that "hospitals are on heat wave alert", at a piddly 25 C

WTF!!!! its just embarassing

backtotalkaboutthis · 17/05/2010 12:43

You need to realise that in countries where temps regularly hit 25 30 35 they will all have damn good airconditioning. It doesn't happen that way in the UK. That's why it's more of an issue.

Morloth · 17/05/2010 12:47

Snort at 23 degrees even being considered warm.

I have braved cropped trousers and flip flops today but I am wearing a jumper! It's lovely in my garden but about 5 degrees colder out the front. I'm always the last one to bare skin, probably why I'm so pasty...

AnyFucker · 17/05/2010 13:03

it is very cold here

sunny but chilly, like it has been for about the last 2 weeks

no sign of a heatwave here

porcamiseria · 17/05/2010 13:06

back to

in Chad? deepest Libya? I think not!

backtotalkaboutthis · 17/05/2010 13:15

sorry didn't realise you were in Chad or Libya

I meant Asia Pacific, the US, the Middle East that kind of thing

of course compared to equatorial Africa and conditions there, things do look rather different

British people are idiots not to think of that when they're thinking about the temperature

Weta · 17/05/2010 13:22

backto - even in the south of France, where it was regularly 30-35+ for several weeks in the summer, hardly anyone had air con in their houses. I hated it, had to stay inside all day with the shutters closed just to keep the heat out before finally venturing out around 5 or 6pm.

porcamiseria · 17/05/2010 13:23

yup posting this from the depth of the Gobi desert, fucking boiling here!

Morloth · 17/05/2010 13:23

I find getting excited about a glimpse of sunshine a totally endearing British trait.

OrmRenewed · 17/05/2010 13:24

23 is absolutely sweltering! Phew what a scorcher!!!!

I don't like hot weather. Isn't the fortunate?

SuSylvester · 17/05/2010 13:25

so teh conclusion is of this thread that people in hot countreis find England cold
whoddathunk it

porcamiseria · 17/05/2010 13:30

our relatives come here (from Libya!) and wear coats and mumble, and brr about how cold it is! the fuckers, I am sat there in my t shirt enjoying the "heatwave"

altough the expanse of pallid white flesh when the sun comes out can be a bit disturbing

merryberry · 17/05/2010 13:31

Es scorchio.

Scorchio, scorchio, scorchio

OrmRenewed · 17/05/2010 13:32

My granny spent a decade in Australia. Mum was born there. Granny used to feel the cold all the time - was always huddled over the fire or the radiator. Mum is similar - always wears twice as many layers as everyone else.

Morloth · 17/05/2010 13:40

I on't mind the cold, in fact quite enjoy it.

But the grey gets to me.

Francagoestohollywood · 17/05/2010 13:45

lol at "soar"!!!

I used to be impressed by "heatwaves" at 27 degrees...

Psammead · 17/05/2010 15:56

I don't mind the exaggerated heatwaves - it's when the whole country comes to a standstill because of 2cms of snow that I can't believe!
