To cry over a cot & bed?

monkeyfacegrace · 15/05/2010 21:52

Ive just put my 3 & 1 yr olds into custom made mini bunkbeds.
So the cot that Ive used for both of them over the years, and my dd' first little toddler bed are on ebay and sell tomorrow.
I want to cry, and keep them forever just for memories.
Please give me a slap with a wet fish and tell me that Im not alone?

Of course, it's rather emotional, but it's the way of things... Take lots of photos, you keep the memories and then sell them to a nice family on Ebay.

I've just sold my PFB's cot and change table on Ebay (and, stupidly, was emotional that they are both going to the same family )

They have been such happy items for me and I hope that they bring another family, who are expecting their first child, as much happiness as I have had.

but possessions are merely possessions. They will weigh you down. Let it go and know that another will benefit from it.

FWIW, both the cot and changetable were also bought on Ebay and the couple I bought it off were as emotional to see those items go as I will be. Tis the way of the world!!

good luck with the sales!!

You're not alone.Iwas so upset when DS2 came out of his cot and into a normal bed. Thouht he would be my last but DS3 is here, and my sister is eyeing his cot up for her unborn baby. Makes me want to sob even the more.

you not alone we r putting dc3 in a bed tomorrow, so when i tuck him up into his cot tonight(of which all 3 have used) i shed a little tear!!
the cot will be freecycle'd asap!!!!!

it also means my baby days are over!!!

IsItMeOr · 15/05/2010 21:57

Aw bless . I'm sure I will be with you when it comes time to put DS's cotbed away.

It's perfectly normal.

peggotty · 15/05/2010 21:58

No slap from me, I can understand why you feel like crying! DS will be moving into a bed in the next few months and then his cot, that dd was also in, will be going. It's the end of an era feeling isn't it? I'm going to keep the little cot duvet cover that I used for both of them as a memento [sob].

shanks313 · 15/05/2010 22:01

Same for me...DD2 moved into a toddler bed tonight and we had to dismantle her cot this afternoon.Very emotional

monkeyfacegrace · 15/05/2010 22:04

Oooooooh!

But yes, my mum offered to store mine in her attic in case my siblings want them. I was so pathetically grateful!

supersonicmum · 15/05/2010 22:04

I have inherited a cot from my mums best friend - whose oldest is 48!! She has told me not to tell her when i get rid of it. So i think you are being reasonable. If you have the space keep it your grandchildren can use it.

VoulezVouzCrochezAvecJACK · 15/05/2010 22:05

Mind you, the cot I used for DD's was the same cot my little brother slept in, so probably best you go rid now rather than hanging onto it for 25 years

Shaz10 · 15/05/2010 22:06

I had a little weep when I moved the crib out of the bedroom and back to my mum's. My brother and I both slept in it before my son did.

monkeyfacegrace · 15/05/2010 22:08

I have to sell them to pay for the custom bunks.

On a side note, how do you convince an 18 month old that they must stay in bed, even though there are no bars anymore

For the last 2 nights, until he falls asleep, Ive had to go in and put him back to bed about 20 times. And in the morning they are always in bed together [awwwwwwwwww emoticon]

Nope, Im convincing no-one. WAIL.

No, you're not alone. The cot which my 2 DSs used and which was previously my sister's two DCs has just ended up at my parents' house because we can't get rid of it!

We'll end up having to decide when we finally clear their house (I hope many years to come). But at least the decision's put off for now.

MarineIguana · 15/05/2010 22:16

Glad you like my fish-slap art

Monkey my DS didn't work out that he could get out of bed by himself for about a year after moving to his big boy bed. He would yell for us in the morning just like when he was in a cot. Bless!

But according to supernanny (or some such) putting him back in 20 times will work, but you might have to do it for a few nights.

TheCrackFox · 15/05/2010 22:17

Small children cuddled up in bed together deserves a sob too.

I nearly cried reading DS2 his bedtime story tonight and I used to be as hard as nails before I became a mum.

alicet · 15/05/2010 22:25

I must be a heartless bitch then as I didn't shed anything approaching a tear when ds2 went into his big boy bed. He was just so so excited to be just like his big brother that it was lovely to see.

get why you lot all felt as you do but just have absolutely no hankering after the small baby stage and lots of excitement watching them grow up!

CrankyTwanky · 15/05/2010 22:31

That fish is mint, MI.

Pics please of the custom-made itty bitty bunks!

My DS had DHs old cot from childhood. It's shite tbh. Nice idea, but it's old & decrepit. The drop-side dosen't work, and I'm not sure it was at all safe.

You're better off selling them to someone else to shed a tear over.

monkeyfacegrace · 16/05/2010 08:42

I will add a pic of the bunk asap. Ive looked for ages to get bunks to fit toddlers, as you shouldnt put kids under 6 in the top bunk for obv reasons.

Anyway, found a man called Ian in Bournmouth who is custom making me some out of solid pine, and they are a bargain!

I paid £160 inc delivery for beds made to fit an Ikea toddler matress, so 160cm x 70cm, and only 128cm high!

Have a look at his website, pine-design.co.uk.

Did you get that google?

TODDLER BUNK BEDS WWW.PINE-DESIGN.CO.UK !!
(Do you get the feeling Im happy with them )
