People interacting with one's children in the pool

Ds aged two went into the arms of a lovely older gentleman, ninety if a day, who spoke to him and called him "son" and let him swirl him around in the water lots.

I was really surprised as he doesn't usually like strangers at all, but was aware of a couple in their fifties tutting and sucking in their cheeks as this was going on.

The pool has CCTV broadcast all over the place plus I was right there next to them.

AIBU to think this was actually very lovely that the man had no sinister motives and more than that, that he obviously didn't consider for one moment that anyone would think that!

Ds is autistic and very rarely acknowledges people so it was sort of extra special especially as I had endured "but he looks normal" and "what's his special talent?" from the other older couple.

pickledmonkey · 14/05/2010 22:55

wtf!

2shoes · 14/05/2010 22:56

people are so strange.
how lovly that this gent was so nice.

pigletmania · 14/05/2010 22:56

YANBU how lovely! Not ever man is a paedophile, yes you do have to be careful, but you were there with him and used your own judgement.

cakeywakey · 14/05/2010 22:57

Ignore the miseries and just remember how good it felt to see your DS connecting with this older chap. How lovely for them both, don't let the tutters spoil it for you.

MiladyDeWinterOfDiscontent · 14/05/2010 23:18

Thanks, I did actually want to know because when I mentioned this to my Mum and sister they more or less accused me of pimping ds out

It does tsc, visible at the club reception on screens which is a bit of a bugger when I take ds there during "NO CHILDREN" times and it's raining outside.

But don't most places have cameras these days? What are you getting at?

MiladyDeWinterOfDiscontent · 14/05/2010 23:28

Oh that is so sad for your friend rasputin.

Sounds like a lovely time was had, both by your DS and the older gent. Let people think what they want.

Everyone is a bit over-suspicious these days, trust your own feelings on it, only you were there and if you thought it was lovely, then I'm sure it was.

MiladyDeWinterOfDiscontent · 14/05/2010 23:35

and maryz's brother.

Come back tsc, I always love your posts and I'm a bit worried that you said you have fainted, you delicate flower

I know a lovely guy whose dog died but he said he won't get another as a single man out walking on the common is a figure of suspicion.

Aitch · 14/05/2010 23:40

Ignore the miseries. You did nothing wrong.

TSC - I was laughing very hard at your thread earlier today - Are you worried about a possible "worlds funniest videos" appearance?

Aitch · 14/05/2010 23:44

oh dear. did you see your starring role in the round up?

MiladyDeWinterOfDiscontent · 14/05/2010 23:44

Oh now I get it sorry tsc but

jenduff · 14/05/2010 23:52

OP like others have said, it was nice for your DS to have this interaction

TSC - lol

CaptainNancy · 14/05/2010 23:53

oh dear tsc!

Salbysea · 14/05/2010 23:56

TBH I'd call my LO away from a man sitting alone on the beach a bit quicker than I would from a family group, but because I assume that single people are more likely to be irritated by a toddler! I'd also keep him away from single women who are sitting quietly with a book and sit nearer the other family groups, but the single women are probably not sensitive to the paedo label so wont notice.

Nothing to do with a man on their own = paedo, the father there with his wife and kids is just as likely/unlikely to be one IMO, but neither are going to get an opportunity to do anything at the beach with me right there so I am mostly thinking about who'd be least impressed with being handed a stinky bit of sea-weed
