That sounds very wrong to me, you may not be able to get to choose exactly what school your daughter goes to but you should be able o choose one away from your former home.

Are you anywhere near an LEA boundary? If so you could apply there, if not then I would think your health visitor would be the person to speak to.

Are the police/social services/any other authorities involved? If so, could you get a letter from them to explain the situation? might help?

good luck

YANBU, but put this in Primary Education where some people who are very experienced in dealing with admissions problems and know lots about LEA procedures will see your thread.
AIBU is not the board ofr such a serious question - IMO!

It sounds wrong to me too, surely they can allocate her a school in your new area even if its just a case of whatever school is left, rather than what would have been your first choice..
Don't they have to do this during school year whenever children move house into a new area?

DumpyOldWoman · 14/05/2010 17:51

Or link to this thread from a thread in Primary Education that is called 'Help! Admissions - moved after closing date because of domestic violence'

Sorry, by LEA boundary I mean near to schools run by a council other than your own.

I know living where I am I live in the Luton LEA area but it's a short drive to the South Beds or the North Herts areas. If I chose to I could apply for a school place in one of those areas instead of my own.

No, don't regret leaving!

LOTS of places come up between now and the start of term. And the waiting lists are done afresh - so you could be a priority case on a school's waiting list if you have documentation saying why you need a school in that area. But you need specialist advice as to how to best present this.

MumInBeds · 14/05/2010 18:17

Ahh, that's a shame.

In which case I would call your closest schools direct for advice including information on their waiting lists. I can't see that it would be a whole year before there is a place, people move house all the time.

Even if he school start ends up being a little delayed don't worry, assuming she is going into reception year she is still entitled to 12 1/2 hours (or 15 hours in some places) of Early Years provision in a pre-school or nursery and they have to follow the same curriculum as the reception year in school.
