My youngest ALWAYS starts to get tired at this time, he doesn't nap through the day as he is too active (he is 2).

He normally goes to bed between 6.30 and 7pm and at 5pm he is shattered. Cries, is very clumsy etc etc. He wakes about 7.30am.

Cant do anything with him to calm him down.

God i hate this part of the day lol.

Same here. My DD (4) gets really grumpy at about 5.30 but, in a posative note it means only an hour - hour and a half and she will be in bed asleep (i hope)

CheekyPinkSox · 14/05/2010 17:40

Thats what i think lol.. When he starts to get grumpy i know DH will be home soon, he'l be ok for 10 mins so i can get him ready for bed then he'l be in bed within half an hour/ an hour of him walking in lol

Cruel mummy aren't i?!

Yes, we have the same here too.

The minutes between 5 and 7pm creep by and DS just gets more and more grouchy. Taking ages to get to sleep too atm. It's torture!

Yanbu yanbu yanbu.

My dc are older now but I still loathe this time of day as I have to get out in the kitchen and get creative and I blardy HATE it most of the time!

When the dc go away to their grandparents in the summer hols and there is no requirement for me to be out in the kitchen cooking at this time of day ... I tells ya, it feels like bliss .

TopsyKretts · 14/05/2010 17:44

Are you laughing out loud from a kind of manic tiredness? Because I can identify with that.

CheekyPinkSox · 14/05/2010 17:45

it's the witching hour. Except it seems to last longer than an hour

CheekyPinkSox · 14/05/2010 17:48

Well my oldest who is 4 in sept is with MIL in Scotland for 2 weeks. Which gives me some peace for a few week as they are always constantly fighting aswell.

I cannot see how a 2 year old and a 3 and a half year old can fight over about 100 cars in the middle of the living room!

Don't want to scare ya but DD has just turned the Wii off when it was DS's go and caused a BIG row... both sulking with each other now.... age 10 and 11.

CinnabarRed · 14/05/2010 18:00

YANBU. I have DS1 (2.6) and DS2 (4 weeks). DS2 starts a feeding frenzy at around 5 each day, which goes on until around 8 when he conks out - neatly coinciding with DS1's tea, bath, bedtime and inevitable toddler tantrum.... Sigh.

This is why I officially make 5.30pm Rum O'Clock or Wine O'Clock. Just the one to keep me going till bed time is over.

Been there with 3 kids in 3 1/2 years and still am but in a different way (youngest nearly 5)

When they were little on really bad days mine would be in bed at 4.45pm. They certainly never made it until 7pm until the oldest was 6 years old and we started doing after school activities.

Seriously, put them to bed earlier, even if they just look at a book for a while they are then calm and quite and you get a nice long evening to yourself. I know loads of people who have theirs in bed by 6pm even know the oldest is turning 6 years old. I'd still send mine up at that time if I didn't have so many clubs, home work papers, reading books etc. to deal with.

I miss the days of early bed times. I'm lucky if I can get them there by 8.30pm now and the youngest 2 would be so much better off back at 6pm still.
