Been invited to a wedding which is miles away not keen on going as it will be expensive to go,taxis, drinks etc.

Im broke, should I tell my colleague the real reason why?, or make a excuse up to save face, money is no object to the pepole im going with.

Had the same problem - to be repeated several times this summer...Last time got a nice 'refusal' card - When asked just said Really sorry can't make it I have other commitments - unless you are really matey that should suffice - it's none of their business really? But I can relate to feeling awkward about it.

I would tell the truth really. No shame in it imo, I dread wedding season for this very reason, everyone I know seems to be getting married and I just can't afford it.

I would just go with the 'Really sorry, I can't make your wedding on that day' - they will assume it's the date making it 'impossible' and as it's a wedding not a dinner they aren't going to reschedule are they - if they ask why not, just say that unfortunately you have a prior committment... (which you do - not to go broke!! (or more broke anyway!!)).
