'healthy start' vouchers promote formul feeding

im a tad annoyed here. mt df is a single mum, so therefore entitled to benefits and healthy start etc. she is currently preg with dc4 and when asked how she intends to feed the baby she snorted and i quote ' why the hell would i consider bf when i get free formula'.
just made me think if she had to pay for the formula herself she may have considered breast feeding.
and maybe if the healthy start scheme was not in place a lot more babies might be getting a healthier start by being breast fed. i no this is not for everyone, some mums cant breastfeed, so maybe the scheme should be that if formula tokens are needed they are provided when asked for?

underactive I find it very hard to believe that the boots in your city have no security - if there is a massive drug problem where you live then that is more the reason for Boots to have security - especially if they are a dispensing chemist.

Most Boots stores have extensive security and cctv and the most common place for a Boots store is on the high street, or in shopping malls.

I still find it difficult to believe you.

GypsyMoth · 13/05/2010 23:42

our boots does....its on a retail park,but still,we have a guard.

the one in town doesnt...odd

buttonmoonice · 13/05/2010 23:51

our boots have huge security, mostly due to the heroin users queing for their meds.
must say i have never seen people selling the vouchers, do they hang around the queue with their buggies? if so thats awful.

I'm not sure the security guards are aware of the vouchers or there saleability...... They are probably more concerned with someone running off with the testers or the entire estee Lauder counter!!

Not sure what you could detain someone for either. It's not theft and don't know if fraud would stick.

willowflower · 14/05/2010 00:20

sorry but also who are they selling the vouchers to, why are they doing it inside a chemist? The mind boggles...

nickschick · 14/05/2010 07:32

I was in a supermarket- the bloke in front paid for all his shopping (about £14) with these tokens most of it was 'family' food-well when it totalled up he had £1 to pay because the tokens went over and they arent allowed to give change....he didnt have £1.

I was in a rush so I gave him £3 and took his token.....when it came to paying I took my purse to pay and the cashier scanned the token id bought a bottle of dark rum and a yoghurt!!(healthy eater me lol).

buttonmoonice · 14/05/2010 11:00

He didnt ask me to buy it - the look on his face was enough ......I just said to him - do you need some change? not wanting to assume he didnt have any money but he was very grateful.
