In being totally fed up with eBay sellers?!

Dinkytinky · 10/05/2010 13:50

It's the second time this month that I'm having issues with eBay- one person pretended to be dead (I did some investigating and found they had been leaving feedback for others from beyond the grave!!)
and now I've paid for a beautiful handbag that ice listed after for ages and it has apparently been posted by first class last Tuesday and still hasn't arrived (worth saying I also bought a top the same day and it arrived day after) she didn't send it recorded and is promising that she did post.
Does anyone else have rant-worthy experiences?? I work really hard for my money and I just feel sooo angry that others bloody steal it!!!!!

someone pretending to be dead???? wow, that's committment. I always have really crap experiences with ebay too, people saying they have posted goods they clearly havent (yes I posted your bag on the 10th and then on the 30th getting it through the post with postage dated the 29th)n Its a pain, but sadly all we can do is dispute with paypal.

memoo · 10/05/2010 14:59

pretending to be dead?!!!!!

Thats actually really funny!

what did they do, send you a message saying "I am sorry I haven't posted your item but I am dead"?

NorbertDentressangle · 10/05/2010 15:03

ROFL at pretending to be dead! Please tell us more.

As to the bag -there is a (small) chance that it is in the post. Last week I was desperately waiting for something in the post (not even a parcel, but an envelope) which, in the end, took 10 days to arrive. They put it down to the Bank Holiday delaying it.

expatinscotland · 10/05/2010 15:04

That's why I know only buy from shops or sellers with a shop.

NewBirdOnTheBlock · 10/05/2010 15:13

I buy and sell less and less on ebay nowadays.

I have had the seller pretending to be dead when I bought a carrycot for 99p with an rrp of £150. The 'sister' said she didn't know where it was to post out but she would refund my money. Gutted they didn't get more for it is a more likely story!

I have had people buying gap/monsoon girls' items from me for 99p and £1 postage and then saying there were pulls in them/stains on them and wanting refunds. I told them to pursue it through paypal. They never did bother! Of 40 items I put on once, 12 people tried this. None went as far as paypal, they were trying it on. There was nothing at all wrong with any of them, most hadn't been worn to get frigging stains on and as they were all washed and ironed, I would've seen any marks. Just to get their quid back!

Ebay is really not worth the bother as a buyer or a seller anymore IMO. I am going to go back to the old boot sales when they start. You know what you're getting then!

I've just resolved a FREECYCLE (now Freegal) nightmare.

I was giving away some stuff (can't be arsed to ebay it) and a lovely lady wanted it but it just took her weeks to come & collect it. She was very apolygetic etc and kept calling to say yes I do want it, but I just want to get rid of the stuff!!

Next time I post on there I'll state it must be collected TOMORROW!

Hope you get your bag - hopefully just caught up in the post.

I bought a pair of shoes on 20th april for 99p, I paid next day. Got charged £6 postage. For that amount I thought it would be next day delivery, checked ad....said posting within 3 days of payment. I finally received the shoes on 7th May wrapped in sainsburys carrier bag, wrapped in cheap brown paper post marked 4th May. Needless to say they got crap feedback, nothing else I can do.

Dinkytinky · 11/05/2010 00:05

Hi everyone sorry for the loong response time-bit of a mental day but thanks for replying!
Well the dead ladies husband emailed me to say she had died in a terrible car accident!!! And that was only over 6quid!!! It was pretty funny writing 'is pretending to be dead ' on the paypal resolution forms!
So the seller got back to me today and said her post office said it could take up to 20(!!!!!!) days to post a 1st class packet!!!! Excuse me but as bloody if!
Urgh what to do??

And! They always seem to have 100%feedback!

What did she state as the method of posting in the auction? Regardless, I would start a Paypal dispute now. The advantage of doing this is that Paypal will freeze the money until the dispute is resolved. I wouldn't give her warning of this, as it gets tricky if she goes off and empties her Paypal account, although it can still be dealt with.
Normally when you send a package 1st class you would get a proof of posting. So I don't believe her, or she'd have given you the details of that. However, if she's sent it first class it's not trackable, and so Paypal will find in your favour. Heck, even if you got the goods she wouldn't be able to prove it and Paypal would find in your favour, so she's been a bit of an idiot really. I got caught out ages ago when I sent some people a Playstation first class. Within 3 days of the auction (ie without even leaving time for delivery!) they filed an item undelivered dispute. Which meant they had got it, realised it wasn't tracked and decided to try it on. They got a full refund via Paypal because I hadn't used a trackable service.

Saltire · 11/05/2010 08:11

actually dinkytinky - my post office told me that once. In fact the exact words were

"just because you stick a first class stamp/postage on a parcel doesn't mean it will be posted first class, it can take up to 21 days to deliver"

Not trying to defend a rubbish seller BTW.

Cretaceous · 11/05/2010 09:07

Keep looking at her feedback in case the latest ones are negative. If she still has 100% positive feedback, there's still hope. I ordered something from the US, the seller did actually post it airmail, but it arrived weeks later by surface post - mixup at the sorting office! These things do happen.

The pretending-to-be-dead brigade made me chuckle.

Cannotfindaname · 11/05/2010 09:26

OMG, I have got a few things for sale on ebay atm. I have never had any experiences like the ones mentioned above in any buying or selling on ebay. I feel a bit weary now.

ScaredOfCows · 11/05/2010 10:14

WRT the 21 days to deliver a 1st class parcel, the PO say that because they won't accept a claim for lost item before 3 weeks after the date of posting (assuming the poster has proof).

I used to have an ebay shop, and noticed that although 3 years ago, it was unusual for items to be lost in the post, over the past year or so the frequency of so-called (?)lost items really increased.

Dinkytinky · 11/05/2010 11:42

Thanks everyone- she said (and I paid) for it to be 1st class. I've been Reading the royal mail website and I have found that if it is 5 days late you get a certain amount of compensation and after 10 days you get more compensation.with no mention of 21-20 days anything. Ahh well... I think I'll give it today and tomorrow and then start a dispute. I'd rather have my beautiful bag though

MorrisZapp · 11/05/2010 14:07

I see it as an 'ebay tax'. The vast majority of my transactions have been painless and I've had some brilliant bargains recently so I'm feeling very pro-ebay just now.

But I do have a seller (£8 hair product) who never sent the item, then claimed to be on holiday in Africa and offered a refund, then never gave the refund.

I've said to them that I will be pursuing it through ebay but I don't know how, also have bizarre terror of leaving negative feedback in case they come after me or something.

I don't know what to do.

Aussieng · 11/05/2010 14:12

I've only ever had one item not turn up from an ebay seller. I raised a dispute with paypal but the escalation date was on a Sunday and so expired without me having access to the computer

I just bought something on Sunday, paid immediately after the auction then had an email saying "thanks for you swift payment, afraid that due to work committments I can't post these until next Saturday. Cheers". I've replied mildly stating that perhaps the listing details should have made this clear and I will (assuming I receive these next Monday) leave neutral feedback with 1 star for delivery times.

Aussieng · 11/05/2010 14:13

Sorry - my reply to the seller ended at clear and the following words are just an expression of my current intention.

thehillsarealive · 11/05/2010 14:18

I have just sold a beautiful Laura Ashley sofa, 3 years old for £30, I dont care, I just want rid of it. Hopefully it will go to a good home, but if the people say one thing about it then I will refund their money and tell them to bugger off! They are getting an expensive sofa for a song.

I would never pretend to be dead, just incase the karma fairy came and ran me over!!!
