A biker friend of mine hand-knitted a black cardigan for DS when he was born. It was fantastic and got handed down to DD when she was tiny, too.

My son had a black baby grow with "My daddy rocks" on it in silver gothic script (AC DC style) I thought he looked fab and we got lots of compliments.

I think dark clothes are great for nursery or playing in the garden, often with a bit of red or orange in there, which suits him.

Dad does a lot of the childcare and they would look daft if DS was toddling along in pastel knickerbockers.

I don't think it is very reasonable to generalise about babies in general, really.

DD has a fab dress from Polarn O. Pyret which is black with thin coloured stripes. I wish I'd bought another one because it's getting a little small She suits strong colours, not wishy washy lilacs.

I don't mind black.

Better than sick-pink which is the only colour available for girls in many shops.

Love black clothes on my son. It's much better than insipid yellow and pale blue. What else are us ex-goths supposed to dress our kids in

nappyaddict · 09/05/2010 13:57

MamaG Do you mean just black or something that might be black and white or black and another colour?

Lionstar · 09/05/2010 14:08

I loved to dress DD in a black polo neck at about a year old, for those nihilist days

LouIsOnAHighwayToHell · 09/05/2010 14:11

I bought my niece a black all in one with a skeleton printed on it. I think it was a Halloween costume. She wore it aged 3 months to her first cardiologist appointment. Doc loved it apparantly.

Ooh glad I wasn't the first one to mention Myleene Klass. Her first collection had a teeny tiny (black) leather jacket and then in a recent interview she said she didn't like adults clothes on babies

sallyJayGorce · 09/05/2010 18:33

20 years ago I met a baby called Oisin who slept in a drawer and like irises. He wore a black hoodie.I'd never seen a baby in black before but he wore it well and I've liked 6 month olds in black ever since. It's great for days they play in volcanic ash.

YANBU. I HATE black clothes on babies and toddlers. I also hate all these bright colours. I much prefer all the pastel blues and pinks but I am aware that I am very much in the minority which makes clothes shopping for a 2.3 DS a bloody pain sometimes.

Once a child gets past 18 months it is even more difficult to get nice clothes.

In Next atm they have some 'lovely' florescent clothing for toddlers.

Sorry but I disagree - I love black on my 1 year old blonde haired blue eyed boy. It brings out his eyes - he looks great in black and in a strong blue like denim coloured.

Also, his dad and I wear a lot of black so when he's wearing black he looks just like a mini-daddy. Especially in his baby Cyberdog clothes, he loves the reflective patches on them and is always trying to eat them.

But even having said that, I don't dress him in black all the time, maybe just once a week, there are far too many lovely coloured clothes too.

venusonarockbun · 09/05/2010 19:29

Saw a few black-clothed babies at the goth weekend in Whitby a couple of weeks ago.. They looked great.

CaptainNancy · 09/05/2010 19:33

Sorry- YABU... babies should wear whatever their parents like, and some of them like black, some of them don't.
My DD (skandi colouring) looked fantastic in black (trousers and cardi rather than top) as it suited her colouring; DS (mediterranean colouring) doesn't so I don't put him in it.
