To be really annoyed with this dentist?

Went to the dentist on Friday with DS, I went in for my appointment first and sat on chair, had mentioned to dental nurse outside about maternity exemption card and she said she'd take it in the room. Anyway I sat on chair and dentist started looking at my teeth and started with that scraping tool, did one tooth when nurse comes over and asks for my card which I give her.
Dentist has started saying the things they say like T3 missing -( I had 4 teeth removed when I was younger to make room for other teeth) and then he bloody stops and says "do you pay for your treatment?" I say no as youngest is only 8mo. He goes on to say 'carry on brushing twice a day and come back in 6 months!" So I got one tooth scaled, no polish and no records taken!!! Also if I did have anything wrong with my teeth I'm not going to know for 6 months!
Son then goes in ok so he is only 2yo but would like some reassurance that his teeth are ok, dentist puts mirror in for literally one second and says bring him back in 6 months also! He really seemed like he couldn't be bothered!
So anyway AIBU to officially complain?

YANBU. That is disgraceful.

I think YANBU wrt yourself but not so sure about your DS - mine doesn't start seeing them until they are 3.

YANBU. That is extremely unprofessional and I would be both complaining and finding another dentist. As for your DS, you were right to take him and the dentist should have done more than that. My dcs both saw my dentist before they were a year old, they just came to my check ups.DD only had 1 tooth at the first visit! The dentist would examine them with a mirror and a finger, to get them used to having oral examinations.

When I was on my mat exemption my dentist (who aren't particularly fantastic usually) was offering me all sorts, asking if I wanted my fillings replaced with the white stuff, fitting me for bleaching trays (under the guise of bruxism guards for teeth clenching/grinding) and the kids always get a good check when they go (providing they co-operate that is! 2yo doesn't always open his mouth).

So yes, if it was as bad as you say I would be complaining. NHS dentistry is going down the shitter it seems, you hear some awful stories.

Our last 2 appts have been cancelled meaning it's now nearly a year since last check up for me and DC's but when you get in there they seem to be ok.
