Every election the LibDems do really well in the run up to the election with everyone saying how great change would be and isn't it time we move on from the 2 main parties and then......nobody actually votes for them. (At least not half as many people as said they would vote for them). I wonder why we are all such creatures of habit who seem content with the status quo of two main parties batting power back and forth?

Actually, about 23% (or almost a quarter!) of the turnout DID vote for them...though that only translates into about 8% of the seats. Time for electoral reform anybody?

I agree silky but I just can't work out why so many others who said they planned to vote libdem didn't. I mean what are they afraid of or do we at the end of the day just stick with what we've always done even though that may not be the best option I'm just curious why the same thing seems to happen over and over again.

welll even my dad - a born and bred yorkshire man was absolutely stunned (and quite pleased by the sound of it ) that Lib Dem took Redcar so dramatically

Why did the Lib Dems lose seats they already held then?

It was an unmitigated disaster for the Lib Dems, but luckily for them, because the Tories also underperformed, they actually have the chance of real power.

a lot of people i spoke to over the week said either they would not be voting ot they would be voting for a cetain party but they didnt know why exactly

I ead an article recently (can't remember where) that said that people state they want change but in reality are too scared to actually take the plunge when it actually comes down to it. I don't know if that's true or not but am enjoying watching the Tories backtracking very quickly from their predictions that a hung parliament would be a disaster for Britain.
