Outraged at BBC Party and Drunk Celebs

mrsgogo · 07/05/2010 00:40

Who is paying for this party at the BBC - the licence payer????

And do we really want to see interviews with drunk celebs?

OP posts:
sethstarkaddersmum · 07/05/2010 00:46

it's dull and self-regarding isn't it?

tulpe · 07/05/2010 01:19

absolutely. I don't give a rats ass what Toby Young or Joan Collins' political views are......much less want to see them getting even more pissed on BBC funds

sethstarkaddersmum · 07/05/2010 01:21

Maureen Lipman sounded very drunk.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 07/05/2010 01:24

Joan Collins was a disgrace. Not just because she's a raving Tory. (Although mostly because of that.)

CristinaTheAstonishing · 07/05/2010 01:25

The historians were a bit joyous too. I wonder how, they only had a glass of water to share between the three of them.

IMoveTheStars · 07/05/2010 01:28

If Charlie Broker was getting shit-faced would it be OK?

CristinaTheAstonishing · 07/05/2010 01:29

If he didn't come out with such massive crap as Joan Collins.

IMoveTheStars · 07/05/2010 01:33

but he's the Master of Crap Spouting
(his official title)

ifancyashandy · 07/05/2010 08:49

Having recently worked at the Beeb and knowing how terrified they are about the Tories getting in and having every single receipt and expenses claim ripped apart audited, I very very much doubt that it was a free bar. First drink maybe but after that, not a chance.

Cretaceous · 07/05/2010 09:03

YANBU. Dreadful bit of tv though . Real dumbing down.

Think there was a bit too much graphics over content, too. I went to bed in the end.

mrsgogo · 07/05/2010 09:04

Even first drink - why- how dare they spend public money on drinks for already over paid celebs. Dh and I both work in the public sector and we dont even get a free cup of tea when we are actually working.

KiddingAnxiously · 07/05/2010 09:08

How the other half live

doggiesayswoof · 07/05/2010 09:12

But we don't know if they did get their first drink paid for do we? I hope not

I lost the will to live with Brucie and Ben Kingsley tbh, dreadful

southeastastra · 07/05/2010 09:14

another excuse for a piss up and they moan about people wanting to celebrate st georges day.

ifancyashandy · 07/05/2010 10:10

Mrsgogo - I said 'maybe'. Cannot stress how unlikely it is that it was a free bar. I've seen seriously Big Cheeses (both political and entertainment types) waving fivers and getting ignored by the barstaff queuing up at the BBC bar like anyone and everyone else.

Staff at beeb don't get free tea / coffee either (nor the facility to make it yourself - blardy PACT rules and all that!)

GetOutOfMoiWayTories · 07/05/2010 10:12

If you met Joan Collins wouldn't you be overwhelmingly tempted to yank at her wig?

I was mesmerised by it last night. It was like a cat had sat on her head.

And who the hell cares about any of them?

ifancyashandy · 07/05/2010 10:14

I think that was her real hair!! Her wigs tend to be MAHOOSIVE and last night it was all straight etc, wasn't it?

runnybottom · 07/05/2010 10:15

Outraged? Really?
You're waking up to a hung parliament, an uncertain government, stock markets plummeting, riots in Greece and the BNP doing relative well......and you are Outraged at some non-entities being drunk on TV?

Prioritise much?

BallpointPen · 07/05/2010 10:17

Bruce Forsythe, Oh God, the pain, the embarrassment, it was awful.

furious27 · 07/05/2010 10:46

might seem a small thing to be outraged at but sympomatic of what is wrong in country - an elite living it up (whether it be politicians on expenses or celebs)while the plebs pay.

ifancyashandy · 07/05/2010 10:51

They. Will. Not. Have. Used. License. Fee. To. Buy. Politico's. or Celeb. Drinks.

Nor will said celebs / politicos have been paid to be there.

furious27 · 07/05/2010 11:39

oh ok 'ifancyshandy' glad u have clarified. Feel much happy knowing the booze was not free- only issue now is who thought drunk celebs on telly was good tv? But I suppose they had to feel the gaps between results with something.

30andMerkin · 07/05/2010 11:46

It was terrible wasn't it. Even if the booze wasn't free, putting on that kind of bash costs a bit.

And ather than those Neil cringy interviews, I'd have much rather some kind of guerrilla eavesdropping - it was the most bizarre collection of individuals, imagine some of the drunken conversations that must've happened off-camera!

ifancyashandy · 07/05/2010 12:04

Ok. Am going to out myself as a staunch defender of the BBC. Will be absolutely gutted and furious if (when) it gets taken apart by the Tories. The licence fee allows the Beeb to make a massive range of television and not be beholded to what advertisers want. Not dissing commercial channels - just believe there is (and has to be) room for both.

If you are going to have / want wall to wall coverage on election night (and judging by the number on here alone who watched it, then people do), you have to have content. You cannot simply have talking heads sitting behind a desk pontificating. It would get very very boring. It's what ITV did and the overnights show that the Beeb trounced it in the ratings (ergo, the BBC's production team got it right, as most people prefered their content).

Yes, putting in any set of any kind costs money (but probably not as much as you think). Yes, lighting said set costs money. Ditto rigging up the sound / graphics equipment but what would you rather they produced in it's place? (Not rhetorical question - genuinely interested)

ifancyashandy · 07/05/2010 12:05

*beholden (should not have skim read the preview!)
