proud of me. i just voted (and no i didnt spoil my paper).

i just wanted to ask you knowledgable mumsnetter's about the ballot papers. Was it right that i just got one paper with local mp's names. Does the party i voted also count for a vote for the leadership of the country IYKWIM.

i think i just confused myself

well done TiredMummy!

I managed to vote as well, I was strangely excited (I don't get out much), I traipsed round with my DCs like mother duck and the "polling station" was a kind of tin box!

AnyFucker · 06/05/2010 23:13

Labour

DaniellaC · 06/05/2010 23:15

lib dem

solo · 06/05/2010 23:16

I vote by post but am have been so that I didn't mark or send it...until this afternoon.
I sat staring at the names/parties this morning and put them away.
I then sat in my car staring at the names/parties. Put in 4 X's in total and wandered over to the polling station which is approximately 250 yards from my front door and then couldn't see my road on the boards. Upon enquiring, I was told that it was in xyz school for my road...50 feet away!!! It's been a confusing day!

Herbietea, I wondered why my anonymous and private vote has my name, address, DOB and signature all in an envelope together!

Tiredmumno1 · 06/05/2010 23:19

I didnt realise they did that herbie, thats odd wonder why that is.

I got three papers. Do I win ?

Olifin · 06/05/2010 23:52

Blimey solo..must be because it's a postal vote?

They write your ref. no down to prevent fraudulent voting, I think.

I voted Lib Dem. Always have.

solo · 06/05/2010 23:59

Yes, I can sort of understand that, but it doesn't feel very private or anonymous...

I went Lib Dem this time too although I did hover over Labour which has had my vote for all but my first vote(at 18)in 28 years...Tory had it then I think, much to my Mother's disgust!

lou031205 · 07/05/2010 18:33

I voted lib dem for the local elections as Labour is a wasted vote historically (actual result for our seat was 5% labour ) and I wanted to keep Tories out. But failed.

For the parliamentary election I voted Labour. Gutted for the country, tbh.

Sn0wflake · 07/05/2010 18:49

I voted green....it was a last minute thing.

mumbar · 07/05/2010 19:22

yeah I got 2 papers one white one yellow.

Actually was a bit confusing as wanted a different council mp to the party I wanted in parliament. IYSWIM

FrakkinTheReturningOfficer · 07/05/2010 19:28

Votes are not anonymous or private in the UK.

You vote alone in a polling booth so no-one can influence you but in theory anyone could match up your ballot paper with your name on the list and find out how you voted.

solo · 09/05/2010 01:11

I'm always a bit about the pencil in the booths as opposed to a pen. I'd get a pen out of my bag to use instead of a pencil. [Don't trust anyone emoticon]
