To think that our local BNP candidate should have put his address on the ballot?

On the ballot papers all the candidates have their names and addresses. Except the BNP candidate who only has his name and the area he is from, no address.

I detest the BNP and all that they stand for.

I also realize that the reason he probably doesn't list his address is because of fear of reprisal.

But if the man is going to stand up for what he believes in, then shouldn't he be as open about who he is as everyone else is and put his name and address to his beliefs?

We didn't have a BNP candidate (thank goodness) but we did have a UKIP one, and there same thing happened. All the other candidates gave their addresses, his entry just stated he was a local resident.

NomDePlume · 06/05/2010 18:28

we are lucky enough to be filding both a UKIP & a BNP this time. Neither will get in. I think it will from Lab to Con.

SecretPollingBooth · 06/05/2010 18:31

Ralph Stephen Musgrave, google tells me, BT

LilRedWG · 06/05/2010 20:46

No address for the candidate.

MiladyDeWinterOfDiscontent · 06/05/2010 20:48

Ours did put his address and he lives on my street now feel icky...

We don't have a bnp candidate but do have an animal liberation army (or something) candidate who also didn't put his address on the ballot paper. I thought that was a bit cheeky after his friends in the ALF sent letter bombs to home addresses.

AuntieMaggie · 06/05/2010 20:53

ours had his on the election paper and he lives in the next street.... i never knew...

CaptainNancy · 06/05/2010 20:57

for milady...

Both the BNP and UKIP candidates put their addresses on our ballot papers, but doubt either will get many votes tbh. We haven't had any leaflets from the former and only 2 from the latter.

There was one candidate listed as outside the constituency but he was independent (and oddly, his leaflet had nothing about policies, or his picture or anything

mayorquimby · 07/05/2010 09:21

"mayorquimby - but surely he should believe that his policies are reasonable?"

And he most likely does believe in them. I just think this is the kind of thing that people will complain about the BNP doing but wouldn't if it was another party who had safety fears. e.g. a gay rights campaigner in a notoriously homophobic area, or an ethnic minority campaigner who had been targetted in racist attacks or something along those lines.
By all means bash the BNP for their horrible and myopic views but I think when people get sidetracked by minor non-issues like this it merely strengthens the BNP cause because it gives their sympathisers and supporters more ammo for their victim mentality as they can then lament about being targetted because they are white/by virtue of being BNP and how no one would bat an eyelid if a muslim/black/gay/who ever their targetting this week did the same out of fear for their personal safety.

SecretPollingBooth · 07/05/2010 10:52

yes, good point esp gay rights example
suppose they see themselves as the reasonable minority
Also now i think, it was "Mr Tory, who lives in..." anyway, on my sheet
