Concentrate on the things you can change and stop thinking about what has happened and concentrate on what will happen.........

Simple philosophy and makes things a lot easier to rationalise.....also reduces a lot of bad feelings giving us more energy to deal with the things in our control.......

and here ends todays lesson and now I feel a lot better, thankyou

You are correct.

Unfortunately people are also correct when they say you shouldn't eat massive slabs of chocolate, or drink way too much. Unfortunately I like to do those things and I also like to have a bloody good moan.

So you are correct and YANBU, but it's another state of mind that I will not have the motivation to achieve.

MyDingaling · 05/05/2010 20:26

That's us told!!

stoppinattwo · 05/05/2010 20:30

let me clarify.....we waste a lot of energy worying about what we have done....more so than what we are about to do....

eating chotoalte and drinking alcohol definately doesnt count

My ding...you are told

I see what you mean. I like the philosophy. I do waste a lot of energy worrying about things past so I am in agreement.

JackiePaper · 05/05/2010 20:37

you are right

change that which you cannot accept, and accept that which you cannot change.

TheCrackFox · 05/05/2010 20:38

YABU

I enjoy moaning, it cheers me up no end.

MsSparkle · 05/05/2010 20:42

Read The power of NOW. It's a good book and is all about living in the now rather then living in the past and/or future.

thehillsarealive · 05/05/2010 20:45

ah yes, my friend has this saying about 'navel gazing' - when people spend the whole time pondering what happened instead of being proactive.

YANBU - but we are allowed a moan now and then.

oceryo · 05/05/2010 20:57

YABU.

Sometimes thinking about things we can't change gives us more compassion for the people who have been through them (rather than telling them to stop moaning).

Or it can give us a perspective on how we would deal with something differently in the future.

Some people find it helps to think/talk things over in order to come to terms with them. Some people prefer a practical approach. Neither approach is better or worse than the other.

stoppinattwo · 05/05/2010 21:03

well you wouldnt tell them to stop moaning about something - I would never hurt a frined feelings this way, but you could be sure that I dont suffer habitual moaners (which i stress are completely different from those who suffer depression)...I would never hurt someons feelings in that way, that would hurt thier feelings....show sympathy and help them move on...but dont waste energy looking at what happened, learn from it and look forward

Oh and have a moan about things by all means...but only about the things you are about to change .....having and indulgent moan is as good as having a giggle
