to feel furious about Tories canvassing outside dc's school

..... we live in a VERY deprived area. Today the Tories sent in a bunch of grammar school boys, no doubt from their homes in the posh bit of the borough, to hand out leaflets outside the dc's school.

How do they have the gall to send middle-class kids into the 'hood' to encourage the poorest people in society to vote in a government who won't represent their interests?

I wanted to shout - 'when was the last time areas like this benefited under a Tory government?'

But I came over all shy and just marched into school with my head down.

But I feel and

And they'd obviously told them to dress down because they were going into a rough neighbourhood - never seen such a scruffy bunch in my life. Someone should have told them - round here people wear CLEAN trainers and IRONED jeans, not stained plimsolls and jumpers that are unravelling round the hems.

And all I think of when I think of Tory is take, take, take, from those least able to afford it, and then slap their hands and tell them they should be grateful for the privilege.

Pag I knew you were going to link to those two before I clicked it

herbietea - it is the biggest tradgedy of Labour. They keep people poor and state dependant, but scaremonger that any other option will just remove that state prop without putting anything in it's place.

pagwatch · 05/05/2010 18:44

I love them Ali...

expatinscotland · 05/05/2010 18:46

I live in a Tory safe seat area. I see lots of sheep and baaaaaaaaah lambs.

useless information from me

longfingernailspaintedblue · 05/05/2010 22:11

I live in a pretty safe Labour seat, but with the current polls, it might just be vulnerable.

Sadly I doubt it as the demographics changes seem to favour Labour.

'I don't think any political party should be campaigning outside a school tbh. I told a campaigner off for offering my kids a sticker last week, I just don't think it's appropriate for a child to be wearing a sticker championing political ideals they know nothing about.'

Why do you think our DC shouldn't learn about and have an opinion on politics. Many schools are holding their own mock election this week precisely to engage children in the process.

JustAnotherManicMummy · 05/05/2010 23:27

"Why shouldn't DC have an opinion on politics?" How about because they are not old enough to make an informed decision?

If they're young enough to be swayed by a sticker they're too young to be voting...

oldandgreynow · 05/05/2010 23:34

Why shouldn't DC have an opinion on politics?" How about because they are not old enough to make an informed decision

.. and that's exactly why they can't vote

vixma · 05/05/2010 23:58

So ridiulous as all the rest of the time no one bothers with the schools and surprise! Election, suddenly the parties are intrested. We kiss a baby and suggest we will offer the best education to kids.....If only this was true! Nice the Lib Dems have been involved this time to hopefully give and option against the BNP. Not Lab or con....I don't know...We do have good teachers and teaching assistants, but I think the rubbish teachers and teaching assistants have dominated sadly and displeased parents. Would love to here about awesome teachers and teaching assistants as I think some times we are negitive for good reasons.

' think of when I think of Tory is take, take, take, from those least able to afford it, and then slap their hands and tell them they should be grateful for the privilege.'

Have you actually ever lived in the country when the Tories were in power? I thought you were in America?

scaryteacher · 06/05/2010 08:21

'He said he lived in Hampshire. And was an army officer.' He would not have been an Army Officer as they are not supposed to have membership of any political party; and are not supposed to canvass either. Whatever their private views HM Forces are supposed to appear politically neutral as they serve the Government of the day.

Perhaps he was TA?

ooojimaflip · 06/05/2010 08:49

YABU to wear ironed jeans.

MsSparkle · 06/05/2010 09:02

"think of when I think of Tory is take, take, take, from those least able to afford it, and then slap their hands and tell them they should be grateful for the privilege.'

Can you tell me what exactly the Tory party are saying they will "take" from those least able to afford it?

flockwallpaper · 06/05/2010 10:15

YABU. You come across as a snob TBH. But never mind, it will all be over this time tomorrow...

mayorquimby · 06/05/2010 10:23

That's fucking disgusting.
encouraging the poor to vote FFS

longfingernailspaintedblue · 06/05/2010 19:50

mayorquimby

The poor are simply too stupid to vote. Asking them to do so is an absolute and utter travesty.
