..To Think That The Benefits Of Breatfeeding Are A load Of Tosh?...

I breastfed my 1st DS from day one, he fed for 6 weeks completely on Breastmilk with no formula at all.
I got mastitas 3 times and gave up feeding him at 6 weeks due to the pain and his constant hourly feeds, it was draining me.

I then said i felt like a failure for it, and that if i had anymore children i would feed them for at least 6months to a year.

When i fell pregnant with DS2 i was adamant Breastfeeding was for me, so much so that i did not buy any bottles at all.

After i had DS2 he didnt have his first feed for 2 hours due to the damage to my area, it took the midwife an hour to stitch me up. He finally got a feed 2 hours after been born and wasn't latching on properly.

Until i went home i tried my hardest to get him to latch on and suckle from me. It was no good and i was already a failure, he wouldn't latch on and he had to have a replacement forumla to replace low sugars (or something similar - i forget now, as i was still out of it from the drugs)

Now that was 2 years ago and he was a sicky baby, had reflux and didn't wean until he was 10 months old.

My oldest son who was breastfed eats anything and everything but catches EVERY illness going.

My youngest son who wasn't breastfed has NEVER been ill.

Sooo, as for the benefits of Breastfeeding - what is it meant to be, because i do not find it has helped my sons immune system at all!

ff ds from the get go as he wouldnt latch on come hell or high water . BF dd from the word go until 13months . Absolutely no difference between them as far as illness etc concerned ,so i guess ,and it is only a guess ,that just maybe it might have something to do with genetics .Having said that bfing is still cheaper and less faff than ff ,in my opinion

Well thats the next govn saved a load of money, they obviously don't need to promote it seeing as it didn't have the effect one person wanted it to have

My DS was breast for 4mths but I found it extremely difficult because he could not latch on right up until I stopped, it was such a hassle but I did enjoy once he got latched on after about 20 25 mins of fiddling near enough at every feed. My 2nd DS was a fantastic could find his way in the dark no prob but had to stop after 6 wks due mastitis. I am now pregnant with my third DS and I really want this to work out not just for health reason but I loved that closeness with my babies that you only get for a small period of time cause it goes sooooo quick!! SO fingers crossed each to their own I say!!

Oh and my DS who was fed for 4mths has had just as much ailments as 1st and also he still wakes up during the night and is the most difficult nature wise. The 2nd who in the main was formula fed is the most placid sleeps 12 hrs etc. Prob due to the personalities though

Tiredmumno1 - "...and the reason she probably hasnt come back, is she was to busy having a laugh with normal people not being torn to shreds...."

I'm so sorry - the next time the OP posts a load of nonsense carefully thought-out, scientifically factual opinion based on a similarly huge statistical sample, I shall refrain from pointing out how ridiculous this is, and shall instead applaud her for her cleverness.

LindenAvery · 05/05/2010 16:33

Wahay my first!

saggyjuju · 05/05/2010 16:42

yep totally agree, breastfed both babies the firstborn not so long but my second a year, and both are equal and all i can see is that the only differance is i had hardly any sleep with my second for a year instead of a few months with my first!! bring out the bottle, glug glug x

Tiredmumno1 · 05/05/2010 16:53

Davidtennant - i really did mean she was busy on another thread

so give yourself a clap smartalec

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 05/05/2010 17:07

Tiredmumno1 - you implied that she was being 'torn to shreds' here - I felt that the response she got here was perfectly reasonable - hence my sarcasm.

And 'smart alec....' So clever and insightful.

CheekyRedWineGirl · 09/05/2010 11:40

I'm back now so can I have my applaud now? Lol didn't think there was any point in coming back to explain myself because some ppl prefer the OP to post scientific information and research when posting in AIBU! I was having fun on another thread, got bored of listen to everyone on here tell me how pathetic I am soooo I joined the buddy bench

"because some ppl prefer the OP to post scientific information and research when posting in AIBU!"

If the OP had said 'AIBU in thinking that the benefits of not smoking in pregnancy are complete tosh because I smoked all the way through one of my pregnancies and my dc was a good birthweight and is never ill, whereas my dc born following a non-smoking pregnancy is smaller and has asthma?' would she not get the same 'duh'! response as she's had here?

Course she would.

Perfectly reasonable to challenge someone to defend their point of view on the grounds that there's more to most things than meet the eye.

OP, your powers of logic are spellbinding. You should advise the World Health Organisation immediately so they can revise their advise on breastfeeding.

JockTamsonsBairns · 09/05/2010 15:58

YABU. This thread is ridiculous - the benefits of breastfeeding are proven scientific fact, and have nothing to do with opinions, or one mother's experiences. I also failed to breastfeed one of my DC's, which continues to be a real source of pain for me. I'm getting over it of course, she appears to be happy and thriving, but the feeling that I failed to provide her with any more than two weeks of my own milk is laden with guilt.

FF is a good enough alternative, and to coin a well-used phrase, it's not poison. But please don't rubbish scientific fact as a way of justifying your method of feeding.

What a ridiculous post, YABU!!
