Just had my birthday. I have also booked this week off work, as my first week off without kids, not in a school holiday, since DD started school in 1995.

DS gave me a voucher saying we were going away on Tues, back Friday. "Nothing exotic or too exciting, no passport required".

We are not uber -rich so it won't be very posh.

Other presents were a base layer, a fleece and some walking trousers.....

He has assured me we are NOT taking the tent.

I need to pack for every eventuality.

I am intrigued, but finding it hard to not KNOW

If anyone has spoken to Mr Milliways and knows where we are off too then answers here please

I would hate that!!! You need to know what to pack and which bits to get waxed and how drastically.

But anyway.......have fun!

Sounds like you're going somewhere in this country and might be going walking You might stay in a B&B or youth hostel. I'm guessing a lovely picturesque part of the country, but I wonder where!

Pack comfortable clothes, leggings (not jeans) for walking, warm jumper for British weather, something for a nice dinner out one evening, sun cream, camera, something to read in the evenings, nice shower stuff to wash off the mud you've gathered on your walks, and enjoy the surprise

I was just wondering this today myself. I work full time and study full time for a masters too, which my boyfriend supports me wonderfully in (does basically all the housework, cooking etc). I said ages ago that when I finish in Sept we should go away for a few days and suggested Skye. But today I got to thinking that I could have him think we're going to Skye, but then whisk him off to New York . But I think I'd have to tell him before the packing happened as an outdoorsy holiday on Skye is a bit different to New York!

I'd go with Oceryo's suggestions, but add in a 'nice' outfit in case he takes you somewhere swankyish for dinner. And if you're driving you shouldn't be short of space so it wouldn't matter if you overpacked a little?

Enjoy your break! Let us know once you're back where you went!!

If you're coming up to Scotland, pack your winter woolies - they're still skiing on the Cairngorms.

I think you're going to the Lake District.

Milliways · 03/05/2010 17:59

DH LOVES Scotland, and we have never been apart from a (long)day trip -so maybe.

I think either the Lakes or Snowdon myself.

Better get packing soon...

Woolly hat and sexy undies I reckon!

EdgeofReason · 03/05/2010 20:18

No no no - pack the following and let him see you doing it - Sling backs with 3 in heel, no coats, dresses, large empty shopping bags, slinky pants. He might then re book

ifancyashandy · 03/05/2010 20:35

Applauds EdgeofReason and wants her to write a 'Guide on How to Have a Husband Do What You Want'!

MisSalLaneous · 03/05/2010 20:37

How exciting! I'd pack warm and waterproof, and telling dh to add anything I didn't without me looking.

I'd die not knowing though!

EdgeofReason · 03/05/2010 21:12

Why thank you ifancyashandy Of course I have ended up shivering before now but I always go with the mantra 'I'm prepared to go anywhere these shoes are suitable for' while in said sling backs

Milliways · 04/05/2010 08:06

EdgeofREason - he looked at my 2 "posh frocks" and said won't be needing them....

Pack some sports things too

Nice tops & Jeans will suffice, as well as lots of woollies.

Anyway all packed now. Just the matter of a filling to be re-done (DH tried to move the appt but they couldn't) and then we are off.

Will let you know where we end up (lap-top is being packed, unknown if get wi-fi though).

Dont forget to pack a bathing suit.

And a nice top to team with your jeans, HE might not think you need to look nice for dinner, but if you happen to find your self at Cave Castle Country and Golf club, eating Duck A l'orange for dinner, you might regret not having something nice.

(like me, when dh told me we were going on a farm stay, so I had plenty of hiking and sporty clothing, and nothing else. He had booked the suite to surprise me. AND there was a spa.... )

Milliways · 05/05/2010 20:04

Well, I am in South Devon

Some friends of ours own a lovely holiday lodge, and DH asked them if we could use it, and they agreed.

It has comfy leather sofas, all mod cons inc. TV etc -and wi-fi! There is a restaurant, pool & gym (& spa) on site.

We have sent the day walking in dartmoor, around some waterfalls & up a few Tors. It is beauftiful. Just eaten in a pub cavery and come back for some of the wine he packed.

Very nice
