To think that Laura Ashley homeware is overpriced and the assistants are snooty?

I can't imagine why they thought it would be a good idea to open a store in an out of town retail park in this fairly down at heel northern town that I live in.

I have wandered in a few times to drool over the lovely things (oooh lovely things!) but the assistants look at me like some sort of hobo and the stuff is well expensive - £180 for a pair of curtains ffs?

Is this the one opposite MCR fort?

NathanBarley · 02/05/2010 22:37

No the one I'm thinking of is flanked by a Pets at Home, Mothercare, Maplin and Curry's...and there's normally a hot dog stand outside!

classy!

BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 02/05/2010 22:39

You should wait for the sale. Sod the staff, you are not taking them home with you.

moomaa · 02/05/2010 22:41

yes good sales in Laura Ashley.

moondog · 02/05/2010 22:42

It is cheaply made nasty crap masquerading as class.
Buy second hand-tonnes better quality and truly original, not fresh off assembly line in China.

TheCrackFox · 02/05/2010 22:49

Count yourself lucky. I got treated like I was a hobo in Peacocks. Peacocks, I tell ya!

it looks like something I've painted - and that is not a good thing.

Nathan do you live in L? I'm sure I've driven past such a location on the way back from the vets (on a mini trading estate)

I'm not into brands but I'm very pleased with my LA wallpaper - feature wall in my bedroom, will be waiting until the cushions are in the half price sale before I think about buying them though!

Lionstar · 02/05/2010 22:55

s'funny, I know Laura Ashley shops exist - I even walk past them on occasion, but I don't actually believe in them I mean the concept seems so dated, so outmoded, so cliche - like something straight out of a Jilly Cooper!

IagreewithNick · 02/05/2010 22:56

The staff in the Laura Ashley I frequent are lovely. I bought a fb dress in there a few weeks back

IagreewithNick · 02/05/2010 22:56

I only buy their homeware in the sale though.

NathanBarley · 02/05/2010 22:57

I was staying in Lancaster. They are everywhere in Surrey but tbh I just went in on passing and was lucky that they had wallpaper matching my newly decorated bedroom! £27 per roll though and need 2 to do a tiny wall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NathanBarley · 02/05/2010 23:10

They had a pink fabric wendy house on display until recently which was £250, that is just crazy. I'd love to know who's buying those at full price round here.

cornsilk · 02/05/2010 23:11

I got some truly bargainous wallpaper from there once in the sale.

NathanBarley · 02/05/2010 23:12

Did anyone look at the chair link by the way - do you agree that it looks like it's been painted while someone was sitting in it? It reminds me of the sketch on the Harry Enfield show with the shop selling the most outrageous crap to sloaney trust fund ra ra types.

CarGirl · 02/05/2010 23:13

Hmmm but cornsilk, I'm clearly so ahead of the trend as what I selected is "new in", I actually have a fashionable room (well for a couple of years!)

stressheaderic · 02/05/2010 23:17

That chair is quite funny. Who buys this sh*t?

CarGirl · 02/05/2010 23:18

Just looked at the chair, that is hilarious - why on earth would you!

NathanBarley · 02/05/2010 23:40

Thank you all!

I am thinking of bringing out a range of genuine weetabix distressed furniture and upholstery.

Here we have the sofa with authentic green felt tip squiggles on the seat. Over there you can see the rug with god know what crusted into the pile - it's just like the ones provencale peasants would put in front of their roaring fires of a winter's night. Finally, the piece de resistance, a bookcase complete with books. As you can see we've scribbled along the entire length of the row of books with an eyeliner pencil, perfectly evoking the anguish of picasso's civil war masterpiece Guernica etc
