to not understand people who say they don't like vegetables?

I know several people like this and it drives me bonkers. They are so hard to cook for. It makes my mind boggle. I hear people moaning about what to cook, you suggest something and then you get 'oh I don't like veg' Dig a little and you usually get a list of exceptions such as tomato pasta sauce, or they might eat carrots.

I just flat out do not understand how it is possible to not like every single vegetable on the planet cooked in every single way you can think of? Because that's pretty much an infinite number of tastes. I'm probably being unreasonable with the sneaky thoughts I have about the 'veg' that must have been served up in their house when they were kids to make them feel this way. I'm probably not being unreasonable to worry a little about their health.

But AIBU to want to strap everyone who claims this down and forcefeed them a hundred varieties of scrummy vegetables cooked in a myriad of delicious ways?

porphyryophillic, its the texture, thats what i do, hide veg in sauces. i can handle the taste, its just the texture!

in answer to how i feed my kids, when my DC's were younger [they are 17 & 19 now] i tried to give them as much veg as possible, every different which way, and they were so preoccupied by what was on their plate they never noticed i only had 1 or 2 types on mine.
funny, if someone came on and said 'i hate all nuts' or 'i hate bananas' it would be fine, but veg is actually a very common dislike!

incidentally, my daughter doesn't like veg either, and she was non the wiser about me until a couple of years ago!

Britfish: It's so easy to blend and just throw in isn't it! I found that blending veg like peppers with some chillis is handy for spicy dishes, I used to freeze blended veg in ice cube trays and count one cube as half a portion, not sure if that's right but it seemed relatively right as veg compacts a lot when blended

Also, smoothies. I love smoothies! I hate eating bananas but use them in smoothies and substitute them for the eggs in the famous 5-min-choc cake too

really? you can substitute eggs with bananas? my mind just went crazy with a million different cake recipes i will now be using banana in....

You did really well to hide it PP-I wonder how many mothers try to? I am beginning to think that some DCs never get to try things because -for example if the mother doesn't like cauliflower the DC never gets it or they don't know what an onion is because they never have one in the house.

YANBU, I don't understand it either, but I think it happens when the child is very young, either forced to eat confrontationally when young or else, as in the case of someone I used to know, overindulged.

I once had an invitation to lunch from a friend who was professional and had a son the same age as mine (3yrs). She phoned the day before to ask what mine would eat, I said just do whatever you are making and she was genuinely surprised that he would eat anything, hers would only eat, and I quote, 'dinosaur chicken nuggets and baked beans'. When I queried the shape, she said that they had been to see experts and that they were distressed by his inability to eat a range of foods. Nobody had suggested just taking away his plate and giving him nothing else to eat until the next meal with no fuss!! Why? Children will eventually eat if they are hungry and no-one gives them attention for refusing it? I genuinely can't see the logic...

YANBU. The one argument with my OH which nearly tore us apart was: broccoli.

Britfish: Yes yes yes! It's good Makes cakes a little stodgy though, but okay with copious amounts of custard or something similar. You have to experiment with it though, I picked up the hint from a vegan website and it's really handy as we often have bananas in the house but not eggs! I use it so much but rarely experiment with it, but I'm sure that you can add something to stop the stodgy-ness?

Pisces: That's why I'm trying to eat more now, when I have kids, I don't want them to have a problem with food like I do! It's not fair on children to not be fed relatively well, and though my parents tried, they never pushed for me to actually eat things which meant that I quick quickly refused to eat most things!

Does anybody else find that they use tomato based products but the taste of actual tomatoes disgusts them? I use passatta and puree in most of my meals, but plum tomatoes or actual tomatoes taste nothing like the purees and passatta, so weak and watery and just nasty

My MIL gave DH potatoes with everything I think so he really got to hate them. NOw that he can cook for himself (he didn't get taught to cook at all at home) he is very inventive and is quite happy with his potatoes.

My MIL does do bad things with veg - I hate her cooked peas and butter beans but I still eat them politely when I am round!
