Can someone please just tell me what the best make of Yoghurt is for children! I am totally confussed and have no idea anymore! Sugar free, no artificial colours/flavours etc etc etc

Apparently little stars and the work of the devil??

oh dear I buy supermarket brands own value ones don't think I'd better look at sugar contents in those then!!! Think I may need to follow the mn advice on this and buy natural and get creative with DS.

Great advice as usual from mn's and I didn't even start this thread!!!

muller corners are apparently yogurt plus cream. haven't checked about whether there's added sugar. My DS was fed this by DH a few days ago and loved it so much he cried when there was none left. Usually we give him petits filous.

nooka · 01/05/2010 20:34

I buy whatever has the least ingredients. In the UK that's fairly easy, as plain yogurt generally means it's made from milk and a bacteria and that's it. So Rachels, Yeos or own brand all fine. then just add whatever you feel like.

Since moving to North America it's one of those things that is really hard to find, as the plain yogurts here have starches and gelatin and sugars and other unnecessary junk in them. Maybe a yogurt maker is the way to go.

SloanyPony · 01/05/2010 20:35

I found Rachels Organic et all had a really short shelf life. I only use "single serve size" yogurts for preschool packed lunch so I gave up on them in favour of Little Stars or Petit Filous (loads of SUGAR YUMMMMMMM) on the basis that he mainly has Greek plain with a bit of squeezy fruit (Innocent tubes of fruit puree) and therefore will not die of Sugar Over Consumption if I happen to put one in his lunch box maybe once a week (which I can because they have a SHELF LIFE)...

Mullers is particularly full of crap isn't it? Here are the ingredients for their vanilla light flavour:

  • Yogurt,
  • Water,
  • Fructose,
  • Modified Maize Starch,
  • Gelatine,
  • Flavourings,
  • Colour: Carotenes;
  • Sweetener: Aspartame.

and the equivalent low fat vanila yogurt from Rachels:
organic low fat yogurt, organic sugar, organic vanilla extract.

I know which one I'd eat (actually in truth neither, as I don't think that vanilla is nice with yogurt at all).

Ledodgy · 01/05/2010 20:57

I buy the organic yeo valley tube yoghurt things. Not sure how much sugar is in them though but the children like them.

well now I know! I bought a yogurt maker a while back, must figure out where I've put it and get some live natural yog to kick it off.

ruddynorah · 01/05/2010 21:15

god i love that rachels vanilla. i get through a ton of it.

dd has whatever i have. sometimes that's the rachels low fat vanilla, sometimes it's amore strawberry. as long as there's no aspartame and minimal crap i ain't too fussed.

I'm addicted to the activia vanilla creamy stuff and if anyone has any low fat suggestions I'd be very grateful...........

My DS seems to like the Yeo Valley Organic Little Yeo's with his breakfast, I can vouch for the fact that they are yummy!

shockers · 01/05/2010 22:02

M&S do a really nice organic Greek yoghurt. The Yeo Valley in tubes make good lollies if you stick em in the freezer. They also keep a lunchbag cool.
