To not want to pay another £10?!?

Disenchanted3 · 30/04/2010 11:27

I needed a buggy because my other went yesterday, I bought one off an ebay company because they said next day delivery if ordered before 12.

I paid for it and emailed them to confirm I would get it today, they said yes.

I just rang to ask what time it would be delivered and they said its still with them and being picked up today, because of Bank holiday I won't get it not till Tuiesday!

I have a 16 month old daughter and no buggy, we don't drive so walk everywhere, we have 2 parties this weekend, childrens ones, so I'm going to have to get the bus with 2 toddlers and carrying a 16 month old! And then I will ahve nothing to put her in when we get there.

Now they are saying if I want it delivered tomorrow I can pay £10!

Why the hell should I pay £10 for them to deliver it a day LATE?!

They won't do anything just saying pay £10 or get it tuesday and I'm really pee'd off, we were supposed to be going to get birthday presents for the kids but its impossible without a buggy!

yanbu... they should deliver it free, refunding anything you already paid for delivery!

(if you are in lancashire, blackburn area i can lend you one)

Disenchanted3 · 30/04/2010 11:31

I'm in Manchester, but thankyou. The daft thing is that the buggy will be really close to us tomorrow, about 8 miles away at the depot and we could collect it for free but like I said we don't drive and would cost £6 for my DH to go on the bus so may as well pay the £10 but really don't want to out of principle!

OP posts:
Disenchanted3 · 30/04/2010 11:39

DH is saying just pay it It is gonna be hell without one this weekend.

Can u not e-mail them and threaten negative feedback for not fulfilling their advertised Shipping? They may send FOC in that instance? E-bay shops build their reputations on feedback and I would have thought threat of negative would kick them up the arse.

Disenchanted3 · 30/04/2010 12:12

They are a power seller asn have hundreds of feedback a month, they have about 16 negatives his month alone, don't think it will bother them.

Have paid it now

OP posts:
WebDude · 30/04/2010 12:45

Are you saying you bought and paid for it yesterday (Thursday) before noon ?

If so, then your negative and feedback comment can say that you ordered on Thursday before noon but would have got it on Tuesday and had to pay an extra 10 pounds to get it earlier.

While you think they may ignore negative feedback, saying it cost you an extra 10 pounds would probably put a lot of people off since their claim about next day delivery looks extra bad when few people would know exactly why it was not going to arrive on Monday.

If you have a blog or some webspace from your ISP you could put a page together to give the info (and then put a link into your feedback so it can explain in as much detail as you wish). If you have no webspace I could put the info online for you (though it would help to have copies of the Ebay messages, so I cannot be sued for libel).

Unfortunately, for any delivery on a Saturday, carriers like DHL, UPS, City-Link and so on do charge quite a lot extra.

I am a little "on the fence" because the problem is exacerbated by the Bank Holiday, which isn't the Seller's fault. But if you paid on Thursday, then I'd agree that it should be with you today.

Disenchanted3 · 30/04/2010 12:56

Yes thats right, I understand the Bank holiday is not their fault, but its the weekend that I needed it desperatly for anyways, so even if it was arriving Monday morning I would still be up shit creek because I need it for well, today, sat and sunday for parties!

I have emailed them and requested a £10 refund,

Do you think I would be able to claim it back through paypal?

OP posts:
thehillsarealive · 30/04/2010 13:00

you can open a dispute via paypal, but not sure how that affects your purchase. you can still leave negative feedback as you clearly are not happy with their service, and while they are a power seller, I read feedback all the time before i bid, to see if what people have left neg fb about would bother/affect me in any way.

WebDude · 30/04/2010 13:21

So you bought on Thursday?

If you have Ebay's confirmation that it was paid for before noon, then you've a stronger case.

I hope all your contact has been via the Ebay site (ticking the send copy by e-mail) - that way Ebay will have all your correspondence to see that your order was made before noon - their description of order by noon and next day delivery - and then request from the seller for more money.

I would really wait for buggy to arrive before starting any dispute precedure, as your need is high and if you start a dispute they might delay sending it.

WebDude · 30/04/2010 13:23

Hope the parties go well, and that you get this sorted out with the seller without getting overheated too much - with luck they will see sense before you tell them you will make a formal complaint to Ebay (only start threatening after the buggy arrives!)

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 30/04/2010 13:29

It sounds like a scam as really, why does an extra £10 make it possible to deliver when they originally said they would?

WebDude · 30/04/2010 13:45

Had a dispute with a firm in Sussex (actually in my home town, west of Hove) where I was buying some items at 1.99 and they charged 2.51 for delivery. Wanted 4 and they gave no discount even though all 4 items would be in same Jiffy bag. Really made me see red as the cost of the delivery was so much more than the small items I was buying.

Some of the delivery costs are reasonable, eg for big or bulky items, and it's true there's time for packing and going to post office etc, but some use tiny price for the item and much higher price for the postage to avoid paying Ebay as much (since listing and final cost is based on selling price, not total amount paid including postage).

Lots of cons seem to be common and apparently ignored by Ebay to a large degree, even when it is Ebay losing some income (they also own PayPal so get their cut from that service, of course, so maybe they don't care about losing some portion on Ebay charges).

PeedOffWithNits · 30/04/2010 13:49

so you paid yesterday expecting delivery today.

not only have they not done that, they are saying its an extra tenner to deliver for definite tomorrow, otherwise it will be Tuesday.

How come its not there today? how is a bank hioliday that is not happening yet causing a delay?

i would not be happy, tell them about the power of MN and threaten to name and shame them!

Disenchanted3 · 30/04/2010 13:53

Yup pee'd. After they confirmed after purchase I would get it today.

The guy, who according to the lady on the phone this morning - 'isn't in today' - has just emailed me back saying to leave it with him, so hopefully I'll get the tenner back.

I'm not just being a PITA, I'm now sat in the house when I should be at the shops bying gifts for the party, so it really has inconvinianced me, I would have bought else where if they had told me it would be tuesday or double delivery charge!

OP posts:
amidaiwish · 30/04/2010 13:56

just pay the £10 and then get onto ebay and get it back.

NormalityBites · 30/04/2010 15:42

YANBU, that is pretty rubbish. I would be complaining big time. As for getting on the bus, here this should help:

Disenchanted3 · 30/04/2010 15:48

Thankyou normality, I don't have a wrap though.

The buggy should be here tomorrow by 12!

OP posts:
NormalityBites · 30/04/2010 15:52

Pashmina would do But I'm glad the buggy is coming. Let us know if you get your £10 back, sounds a total fiddle to me, BH or no BH.

Downdog · 30/04/2010 16:06

Oh don't get me started on ebay delivery charges.

I brought some sandals for DD from private seller. £3 + £3 postage. She listed the wrong size so sandals were too small. Seller refused to refund my cost of returning them to her!

Paypal disputes only works if your return the goods at YOUR expense! OK if you've spent lots & the post is tiny in comparison, but I was going to find myself in a situation where seller listed sandals incorrectly & I was going to be £3 out of pocket - 50% of total spend.

FFS - I'm buying 2nd hand sandals on ebay because I'm SKINT!!!!!

The seller got hysterical when I said I thought she should reimburse my return postage - I would never have brought them if she had listed the correct size.

Huge flaw in PayPal buyer 'protection' if you ask me. Slight satisfaction in leaving negative feedback.

I ended up keeping them and will relist soon as chances are I will get more than £3 now weather is warmer (((digs around in drawer trying to recall where I stashed them)))

WebDude · 30/04/2010 17:50

Good luck on that Downdog. Yes, PITA if someone gives bad description ('lost' a tenner on some fool person listing wrong model number for a mobile phone, so could not use features I wanted as they don't exist on her model).
