to think that lighting a bonfire mid morning on a sunny day is out of order?

Third day in a row that the builders next door have lit a bonfire at 11am. On Monday I didn't realise and my washing was out stinking. Just done a load today and can't hang it out because of the smoke. The garden is drowning in ash and I'm peed off.

I think it's totally inconsiderate to light a bonfire during the day - not just because of washing hanging out, but it's so revolting to sit in the garden and get covered in smoke.

AIBU?

NO, you are not. But maybe they haven't realised it is upsetting you. Go have a word, if they are not receptive. Find out if they are legally ALLOWED to have a bonfire anytime they like...then have another word

Mouseface · 28/04/2010 12:45

Go have a word and do what sanielle says, check if they are aloud to burn anything in the first place.

pigsinmud · 28/04/2010 12:56

I've checked and bonfires are allowed. I think I was brought up to think you had bonfires at 8pm! I would forgive one day, but 3 in a row is a bit much.

I am c**p at having a word, so I'll just have to put up with it!

You are not next to me are you. We have had a bonfire going since last thursday.

If you are next to me then you are the arrogant, unfriendly woman who lets her horrible rat of a dog shit on my drive so I don't care so much.

pigsinmud · 28/04/2010 13:05

I would never let my dog shit on someone's drive so it can't be me ... although I'm tempted to shove my dog through the fence to do it in the bonfire garden.

And my dog is not rat like!

Hmm, not sure. Builders can't have a fire at 8pm, so they kind of have to do it in the daytime really. Though I appreciate that it's annoying, it's presumably only a short-term annoyance while the builders are there. So on balance I think YABalittlebitU.

I'd have a word and see if you can co-ordinate times so that they can get their burning done and you can get your washing done.

pagwatch · 28/04/2010 13:07

not you then

GibbonInARibbon · 28/04/2010 13:08

I love the smell of a bonfire me.

GibbonInARibbon · 28/04/2010 13:08

And the crackling sound they make.

pigsinmud · 28/04/2010 13:09

I didn't clarify that I'm not unfriendly or arrogant - more worried about the rat like dog comment!

I do like the smell of a bonfire, but I hate it on clothes.

Alas, no crackling just smoke.

We had this and 4 weeks later the builders still haven't fixed the damage the bonfire did to our trampoline it burned holes in it. I have been very patient and reasonable but really fed up now kids can't use it. Any ideas on law surrounding this? By the way I do know builders are not supposed to build bonfires and you could complain to the Council. Non commercial fires are fine if it just contains wood, garden material etc.
