...to be boasting to anyone who'll listen (and even a lot of people who've stopped listening)..

...about the fact that both my older children have made it into their Ten Tors teams, and both have been made leader. The older one to lead his 45 mile team, the second one to lead her 35 mile team. Very proud of them.

Well done to them! Permissible boast.

ooojimaflip · 28/04/2010 09:27

YABU - unless you explain what Ten Tors is.

asteri · 28/04/2010 09:29

YANBU, well done to them!

duchesse · 28/04/2010 09:31

Ten Tors is a massive walk that happens on Dartmoor on a weekend in May. Groups of 6 14 year olds walk alone a 35 mile course, checking in at various hills (or "tors" on Dartmoor) along the way between 7am on the Saturday and 5pm on the Sunday. For the 16-17 yos there is a 45 mile event, and for the 17+ age group there is a 55 mile event.

Ah - then YANBU

Downdog · 28/04/2010 09:52

fantastic - boast away YANBU!

Oblomov · 28/04/2010 10:01

Boast away. I did my Duke of Edinburgh Award on the same route as part of the Ten Tors route. I lived on Dartmoor for most of my life. 20 years later, I had NO IDEA that Ten Tors was 55 miles. Good God, that is sooooooooooooo far. Congratulations.

duchesse · 28/04/2010 10:26

Oblomov- the basic and biggest part of the event is the 35 mile, 14-15 yo event. Progressively fewer do the 45 and 55 mile events.

Ten Tors now underway- their teams are doing splendidly. Their second cousin is also doing the 35 mile event so much to cheer this weekend.

Well done to both your kids, Ds lead teams for 3 years as an Army Cadet, when he was a teenager. I know you will be as proud of them as I am of him.

mumbar · 08/05/2010 17:55

MuthaHubbard · 08/05/2010 18:15

boast away - my son is doing the annual Keswick to Barrow today for the first time - 40-odd miles......he's going slow now because of a huge blister (he's been walking for 12 hrs now) but i'm so proud!!!! he's 15 and diabetic so i understand the need to boast!

well done to all!!

PurpleLostPrincess · 08/05/2010 18:16

CheerfulYank · 08/05/2010 18:28

duchesse · 08/05/2010 21:10

Mutha that's fantastic! It's wonderful when they achieve way more than they thought possible. How is he managing his diabetes with all the exercise? Is he having to stop to test frequently?

maristella · 08/05/2010 21:36

that's great duchesse

matumble · 08/05/2010 21:37

well done to your children that sounds pretty impressive and well worth boasting about

and Mutha well done to your DS K2B is a big achievement, I did first aid on it for many years, never quite found the inspiration to do it!

duchesse · 10/05/2010 10:57

My son's team yomped back in at 10:46am in black tie. Appreciative murmurs from the crowd for style. They looked dead smart. The boy's feet are a mess (he has very wide feet and was wearing 4 pairs of socks, so his feet were effectively folded lengthways inside his boots- many many blisters...) but otherwise chipper.

Daughter's team came back in at 11:58am, fresh as daisies. Duke of Edinburgh turned up 15 minutes before she got back and in the melee of spectators and security, we missed her arrival back by seconds. Bloddy DofE.

Their second cousin was also there with her school's 35 mile team; they got back at 11:20am (different course).

All participants very very impressive.
